BBK X-pipe made car slow AF (help)
#11
Yes I had it with the tune. Something weird so I had contacted BAMA after I took my X pipe off and they said the only thing they differ in the tune is shutting of the rear o2s but it still ran doggy slow so I contacted someone else and he sent me a stock cat tune and a world of difference so now I'm thinking it was the tune

Yes, I think it's the tune also. Will try other things before switching tuners!

So, I installed my headers AND.....
Made no difference. Maybe .02/10ths of 1.00 seconds quicker, but that is it.
However, I never ruled out the weight of the new tires/wheels vs the performance of the x pipe. And I would put $ on the new tires dragging it down (wider, but heavier. Rotational mass is a huge factor in acceleration).
So, I don't know if my newer, heavier tires caused the slow down, or the x pipe, but I would bet on the heavier tires/wheels.
I will say though, that I can hit 0-60 in 6 seconds with a race tune and my mods. Not too bad.
It wasn't worth it from a performance/benefit standpoint, but the sound of the engine is much better. It's like the car idles really low, sounds super smooth, until you give it gas, and you get a little burble and some sound. Pretty awesome. If you can install these yourself, I would highly recommend it.
Now, we are only judging 0-60 times. I would bet on gains in the upper range for sure. Lower range, maybe new gears would help us out (I'm on stock 2.73s), but the sound of an x pipe/headers is worth the small performance loss in 0-60
I only did 1-2 runs. Got a 6.4 with the performance tune, and a 6.0 with the race tune.
Before, I was able to get 5.9 with just and axle back and stock tires. But that was on 3 pulls. Maybe I can do better, which would prove that the headers did indeed increase performance a bit.
Hope this helps anyone in the future. I've heard an off road pipe and headers will give some gains, but I'm sticking to stock due to CA emissions. Sorry I couldn't help in that respect. Would be interesting to test off road x pipe with headers.
