351 build

RE: 351 build
i would save your money before i just swapped a 351w from a truck. I've done 2 351w swaps. In a 90 and 91 coupe. One carbed one fuel injected. The carb is the cheaper way to go and a clean look easier to tune and makes good power. i ran 7.71 in the 1/8th on a drag radial w/3.55 gears a 2800 stall and c-4 and that was years ago before all these cheaper high flowing heads came out. I was running a little flat tappet cam and box stock iron world product heads , stock crank and rods w/JE 10:1 compression pistons , victor jr intake and a vac secondary holley. simple but pretty effective and good manners on the street. Next one was 11:1 ross pistons canfield stage II heads solid roller 602int 602exh cam, trickflow R intake with a five speed and 4.30 gears. Not exactly street friendly and i never ran that car but it scared the crap out of me once on the street. I used a 351 block, rods and crank out a truck for both but thats all i'd use and i had the crank turned and the rods refitted with ARP bolts. that and a good set of pistons are probably good up to about 550hp. any thing over that you need forged rods and crank and probably an aftermarket block. the swap is easy. The fuel injected car i just bought the trickflow R intake for the 351w and an accel efi billet distributor and swap headers and a power steering bracket. If i remember correctly thats about all there is to it. Oh and a cowl hood the 351w is a bit taller. and of course all the supporting things for the extra power ie. fuel system, ignition, suspension etc, etc. Its an expessive habit. Be patient and do it right the first time and make sure the setup is what YOU want. That second motor was great for power but not what i originally set out to do but let people talk me into things. Hence the reason i never ran the car and got rid of it shortly after it was finished. Well now that i've rambled on forever...good luck with the project.

RE: 351 build
i was talking to a guy today and he said that the fan belt and all that spin the oppisit direction from a 5.0. so will the accesorys and all that be transferable to the 351 block or will i have to find new power steering and a/c and all that?

RE: 351 build
Depends on the year car. The fox body cars require a new bracket from FRPP. The 94-95 cars use their stock accessories. The stock truck motor only made about 200hp. They are good for torque only. If you want a drop in motor find one from a 93-95 Lightning.

RE: 351 build
i used everything from my 5.0 (fox body cars) but had to modify the power steering bracket. I didn't run A/C so i don't know about that. but i ran my stock 5.0 water pump, power steering, alternater and i'm sure the A/C would have worked with the right bracket. It's really not that complicated so don't worry, you might just try finding someone local to you that's done it before.
