Default 351W -> 393 Stroker

Ive heard that a 351W can be made into a 393 stroker by simply putting in 302 pistons and a different crank. True? And if so, would it be a bad idea to get a 351W from a junkyard? I am thinking about doing something like this if possible.

Yes thats true, and a very good idea too. I have my 351 block already just sitting in the garage but Im still undecided on which stroker kit(displacement) I want to go with.

where did you get your block? how do you feel about junkyard engines? i would replace the crank, pistons, heads, intake, etc.

393 uses a 3.85 crank, stock length 351 rod and stock compression height 302 piston

yes, this is what i was thinking about. what power numbers would we be looking at for that setup with AFR 185s and a carb? and with efi and typical bolt ons?

Totally correct. That is the exact basis of the Ford Racing 393 short block and long block they sell. It also does not require any notching on the block to clearance the added throw of the crankshaft.

With the right cam, those AFR 185 heads and a Vic Jr intake with a 750 carb will make 500HP at flywheel at 6000 rpm or less. Just research it and be fussy with the details of the build.
