Default silly question for all......

[&:] have a classic 68 model that im in the process of dropping a 351W FI in and was wondering everyone in here says the 351 is taller i realize that but i have a factory hood scoop.... will it fit under that scoop? i was also wondering i know it sounds dumb (make that VERY dumb lol) a friend wants to give me a turbo of his 89 thunderbird (s/c bird) and i was wondering if it would be worth the trouble trying to mount it on the engine. i realize that i would make more power using a v8 turbo but this one is free..... im not looking at setting any land speed record but it would be nice to pop my hood and show instead a 302 carb but a 351W FI with a turbo. thank you everyone.......

I have no experience with your year car so I can't answer the hood question, except that the 351w will be about an inch taller than a 302. Maybe you can judge how much clearance you will have that way?

For that turbo to do any real good you would need to mount one on each bank. It just isn't big enough for a v8.

My thoughts,
jason

Actually, the Tbird SC has a supercharger, so you'd need to invent a completely redesigned intake for it. Then there's the plumbing...belts...pulleys......

good god! TWICE it states that it is a SUPERCHARGER and twice people call it a TURBO! Skip on the SC idea, not big enough to make up for the ammount of work and desire to get it to work...

1. 351W will be ok for hood clearance in yor 68 if you stick with a good dual-plane intake like an Edelbrock RPM or RPM air gap and a standard-height air cleaner. Some of the high rise single-plane intakes may be close. A dual-plane will be better for a high torque/low RPM street set-up anyway.

2. An 89 S/C t-bird is an Eaton supercharged 3.8V6, not turbocahrged I-4 like in prvious years. Don't bother trying to put it on your motor.

About 15 years ago a magazine put two turbos off the SVO on an ex highway patrol notchback. I don't remember the internals but they did it for less then 2K back then and got like 600 hp on pump gas if I remeber correctly.
