Wussup guys. I finally tore that motor down today. I found out that its a remanufactured engine? I was told that didn't really matter. What do you guys think.
And I also got the #'s of the block. Where do I go to look them up? Or can someone here tell me?
D8VE-6015-A3A

Then up under that it had
8B9

I took a pic just in case I was reading it wrong.

Cant see much I don't think though.

If someone could point me in the right directions with those numbers I would appreciate (sp?) it. All I really know as of now is I was told it was a 351 and that I could use it in my car. Haha.

Thanks again guys.

Ok guys. I found out some things about the block. If I am reading right, the block is a 1978 block from a lincoln. Is there anyway I can find out for sure that this is a 351 windsor? All I know is the heads looked the heads that came off my 302, and that I was told it was a 351. I just wanted to make sure its worth my time to check this block out.

Also (I know I'm probably asking too many questions) I found this kit while searching for info on those numbers.

http://fordstrokers.com/index.php?ta...product_id=121

Is that worth it? It's seems like a good price. I wasn't plan on stroking it but if I could fit it in money wise, it would be great. The only thing I saved from the motor was the block and crank. So I need new rods, pistons and all anyway right.

I'm probably gonna call a few machine shops today to see how much to test the block, machine the block and maybe build the short block. This will tell me where I stand as far as what kind of money I am looking at spending.

BlazinYellow,

You gotta love other peoples "trash" that turn into your Treasure (and I don't mean an untouched piece of KFC chicken breast, no matter how "clean" it still looks... kidding).

You are correct in saying the heads look just like the one's you pulled off of your 302. Because Ford started using the same head castings for both 351ci and 302ci small blocks in 1977. So, a couple of VERY EASY things you can check to confirm your motors cubic inches are...

1. Unbolt 1 or 2 rocker arms and remove a pushrod. Measure the length of the rod (even with just a measuring tape, cause the difference is quite large). Note that a '78 block should be hydraulic flat tappet. So, the pushrod length will be 8.152" or just over 8 inches. Versus a 302 pushrod that would measure at 6.876" for a hydraulic flat tappet or around 6.250" for a roller. As you can see, this would only take you a few minutes and the difference is over an inch.

2. You can also pull a cylinder head bolt out and see if it is a 351w, should the bolt be a 1/2". A 302ci block would have a 7/16" bolt.

Both of these methods (especially the pushrod length) would be a surefire way of determining what you've got! Plus, they are quick and painless. Hope it all goes your way, cause you'll love the torque monster 351w. If you've built a 302, you can deffinately build a 351w. Everything is in roughly the same place, just taller and wider.

Good Luck! Let us know how you make out!

Well I think I have some bad news guys. I measured the the pushrods like you said Indy, they were just under 7". I campared them to my old 302 pushrods and they were only a 1/2" longer, so i started thinking it was a 302 block and not a 351. So I compared a couple measurements with my old 302 block that come out of my car and everything was the exact same. [:@]. I take it I was told wrong about it being 351. And I had my hopes up. Well thanks for all the help any way guys. I'm going to pout now.

dont give up, build a monster that will crush my clevo in the 1/4![8D]

you still got a good start on an engine and it didnt cost very much. if it Is a 302, then stroke it to a 347 if not, then woohoo! its a 351

That will make (3) 302s that I have. 1 in the car thats been in there going on 2 yrs. 1 I took out the car, which wasn't much wrong with, I just got a new shortblock because I'm a idiot and did'nt know any better. And the one I just tore down. I kinda had my heart set on a 351, and probably stroking it. So I have a good friends checking around/keeping an eye out for a block. But like I said, I'm not in a hurry, I don't "need" a motor. It's just something I would like to do over the rest of the winter and spring time and maybe get it in the car for summer time.

I will keep everyone updated, probably in the form of questions. Haha.

What are the major advantages and disadvantages of roller vs. non roller block. My car will be a weekend 1/8th mile track warrior with an occasional drive to work on friday. Also could someone please verify this block casting number for me. Thanks alot for your help.

sometimes the tranny will get stick and then you got a problem, IMO it is easier to unbolt and disconnect the tranny from the engine, then pull the engine and drop the tranny
