Well are you talking about a stock block as in 302? Or 351? I know the F1R is rated at over 1k horsepower. I would like to aim for that but of course be MORE than happy with at least around 800 or so. I'm not gonna be spraying it of course. And to squeeze every bit of horsepower out of the s/c would be hard to do I'm sure....to get right at it's peak power. So anything even close to that would make me more than happy.
This is posted in the 351 section so that is the block i am speaking of. I have a 351 block, i would not give advise if i didnt. But if your looking for that kind of power you will def. need an after market block, I dont care how much cement or how many supports you use, any stock 351 from any year would not be wise to use if you are looking for 800-1000 hp. I am curious, do you actually have the parts for this kind of power or are we speaking hypothetically.

I have the block, and was ready to get the internals for the block. Have the motor on the stand right now. Might be lookin for another block though I suppose. [:@]I know the 302 supports close to 500. If the 351w doesn't support that much more, I don't see the reason for people going thru all the trouble to upgrade to this block. I need to find some time to look and see which block I have for the 351w.

supposedly a 69 or 70 is good for 800hp but thats still pushing a STOCK block pretty hard. just get the block code and go from there

also, as far as the tranny is concerned i wouldn't do a 5 or spd the clutch would have to be very strong and probably wouldn't be that fun to drive. i would do a auto like a c4

When asked "how much hp can a 351 block handle? The general concensus is around 700 hp, but it needs to machined and balanced perfectly. I would feel ok with about 600-650 hp but you were talking around 800 with conservative tune. I am not sure what the engines intended use would be but thing 600-650 hp will provide plenty of power unless your running in a 7 or 8 sec bracket competition.

Thanks for the input. I'll start by looking at the block and see what it is that I have and then guess go from there. May get a smaller s/c if need be. Don't mind spending money on the s/c and internals etc. but $2k for a Dart or something is more than I care to spend on "just" the block. I wasn't aware of the problem with weak blocks when I bought the car. My last cars blockwas strong enough for that kind of power so didn't even give it a though when switching over to a Stang. Oh well. Appreciate the feedback though.Wanna build it once and get it right the 1st time.
