75 torino 351w guide to big numbers
Hay there guys i also own a 95gt but i just picked up this 75 gran torino with a 351w (not M code) and i need some major help to how to make this 4,500 pound boat get up and go. The stock numbers for this 2valver are 143 HP!! and 255 Tourqe the car has a stock 3 speed with some old school form of over drive, it does 17.5 in 1/4 stock. but my 95gt stock is puting out way bigger numbers than this 351 and i need to fix tht. so what the key here to making this 351 put out some solid motor numbers? i assume this motor has the potenial of any 351 but i need a good way to make numbers. (also ill never buy another FI car after owning this carb'd one). Now i would love to slap some afr's 205's on there but to take care of all the guess work im just gonna go with the edelbrok kit off summit which is heads cam intake fpr 1,700 and it gets rid of all the guess work, then ill purchase a matching carb and finally a full true dual exhaust system. but will i be puting out the good numbers with just this kit? i mean 143hp stock is pretty depressing and with hci carb, exhaust, i hope to be puting out much bigger numbers. stock CR is 8.2:1 for the record. sorry for using the forum for the torino but i own a stang to so im sure u guys wont mind to much, a 351w is a 351w. Thanks for the help guys ill take all i can get.

start off with a completely new rotating assembly..
once you decide whether or not to stroke it.. THEN you can decide on the top end pieces...
I will only say this next part once... DONT EVER BUY A PRE-ASSEMBLED/PLANNED TOP END KIT
If you go with some big cubes, get in touch with Jay Allen from camshaftinnovations.com and talk about whats best for what you plan on doing with that car. He can recommend a vey nice set of heads, matching intake.. and even custom grind a cam for you...
oh, one more thing.... Forget that AFR makes heads.... Seriously.
The only reason their 165cc head is such a crowd pleaser in the 302 crowd... is because you can just bolt them on. Most QUALITY 165-170cc heads with 2.02 intake valves will flow enough to make AFR's look like junk
Hell.. My RHS180cc heads outflow AFR185's!

What kind of numbers are you looking for. Putting an edelbrock kit on will leave a lot of power on the table. To make lots of power it will take lots of money. You would def. have to up that compression unless you plan to boost.

bump the compression, do heads, intake, and cam and i see 300 easy. what is the size of the stock combustion chamber (C.C)on the stock head? if you want to use the stock piston get a smaller C.C that'll bump the compression up, but i would get a set of pistons and new rings atleast especially if you are going to put money into the engine. Then get some pistons to yeild you 10:1 C/R with a 64cc C.C whihc most heads have.

RE: 75 torino 351w guide to big numbers
well if you keep the stock pistons get a large 64cc+ C.C and keep that piston and boost. if the stock C/R is 8.2:1 and the head C.C is lower than the 64cc that most aftermarket heads offer then you'll lower the C/R is using the stock piston. Meaning you can boost big numbers.
