351W carb setup fuel Sys ??
 

Everything I have read says you need to change the fuel pump when going carb....I don't understand why. can some one explain this to me? If the fuel system is set up as below it should not have any issues.

I think as long as you use a pressure regulator than it should be fine although the regulator could act as/like a plugged fuel filter and eventually burn up the pump. Not 100% sure so dont hold me to that.

This is how the stock system works on an EFI setup only it works with 30-40 psi. I see no reason whatsoever that this will not work properly with the correct regulator. The pump will be working with much less system pressure though and I thought I may be overlooking something since every EFI-Carb article I read said that the fuel pump should be changed to an external carb -type pump. Unless someone can show me why this is necessary I will be using the system as drawn, then she will let me know on her own. LOL

There has to be a reason every article you have read says use an external pump althoughI dont know the reason why. On a carb car you will only be using 5-7 psi. With my 351 i use two external pumps. Magnafuel for gas and a holley blue for nitrous.

What nitrous set-up do you have. How is the extra fuel pump used for nitrous actuated? When you arm the nitrous system? Do you have sketch of your fuel sys?

BTW what accessories & drive system did you use? Have any more pics? The 351w I just got is supposedly from an 84 F-250. It has the double sump pan and pickup installed but it still has the v-belt accessories on it. Funds are low but I'd prefer a serpentine system.

I have the compucar nitrous. The nitrous switch is inside and hooked to fuel pump. I have everything but AC, i love my power steering. I do have manual brakes though because of the large cam. I run the serentine system and it is nice. No i do not have a sketch. I have a 8 gal fuel cell with two seperate fuel lines running to my two fuel pumps then russell fuel lines run to holley regulators at the carb. Both pumps are mounted underneath car in the back. I also have Barry Grant filters for both fuel lines. I might be able to get more pics this week.

That would be great, I want a strong weekend warrior but something that is fun and comfortable to drive on the street. I plan on having everything but A/C. Did you use an entire serpentine sys from a late model 5.8L or did you re-use your 5.0L stuff?

late model 351, but the 302 stuff might work, not sure though.

When i changed from EFI to carb i tried three different regulators, and the high pressure kept blowing out the seals/o rings so i eventually had to break down and take out the stock pump. Save yourself some time and just take it out now
