tuning holley carb
having a difficult time getting my carb to idle. ill start the car up and set the idle, after making a pass and letting the car charge inbetween runs, the idle went up to about 3000rpm. just curious if someone could give me tuning tips that may be able to solve said problem, thankyou!

RE: tuning holley carb
Best way i have found to tune carb is to use a vacuum guage and while car is idling adjust the idle screws till you have most vacuum. If you have four corner idle, all four screws need to be adjusted the same, like if one is 2 turns in, the rest should be two turns in.

Noonstang,
Here's a shot in the dark! I'm thinking your problem isn't tuning at all. I had a similar problem with my Holley DP... I would jump on the throttle, bang through a few gears and immediately letting off my motor would idle at about 2000rpm. What I found was that my throttle cable still had alot more travel after the throttle linkage had already hit the stop on the carburetor... In effort to ensure all four barrels were open, like everyone else, I stomp that peddle right through the floor... the peddle and cable still have some room, but because the linkage reached the stop, I eventually slightly bent the throttle shaft on the primaries. So when I let off the shaft bound up slightly, leaving the primary barrels open enough to seemingly idle at 2000rpm then eventually would slip shut to resume idling at 750rpm. Remove your throttle cable connection and throttle return spring and see that the throttle blades slam shut quickly and smoothly without these connected. Maybe you have a bent throttle shaft on your Holley. My guess though. Good luck and let us know!
