Should I consider buying it?
 

Somebody nearby me is selling a turnkey 351 with this description

"I have a Ford 351 motor is built, balanced, blueprinted, ported edl 750 carb, polished intake manifild, block hugger hedors, billit dis msd, 10.75 to 1 comp, big cam. dynoed at 480 hp"

I called him to find out more, and he supposedly bought the long block from a shop on the east coast and dropped it into his old truck. The truck's frame was bent during transport because of the carrier driver's neglect, so he's selling the engine, a c4 tranny and a handfull of other parts.

He didn't know what kind of heads were on it, nor did he know anything about the block other than it's a 351. He claims it dynoed at 480hp on pump gas and has less than 500 miles on it.

Is it worth the hour drive to go look at it for a price of 2,000 including all the accessories/extras making it a full turnkey motor?

Just looking for some opinion, or a slap accross the face. (if necessary) ;)

for an hour go for it buddy thats nothing, i will be driving atleast 4 hourd just to look an pick up a shortblock for 650 CAD.

But not knowing what the block or heads are.. It's probably a late year roller or a 75+ block. Aren't those the weakest they get?

Any other opinions?

if it is it will still hold in the 500-600hp range

the older the stronger. so 69-70, 71-71, then whatever after that kept getting weaker, but they are still capable of handling anywhere from 600-700.

It just tempts me because 2k is what I was expecting to pay for my block alone, and this is an entire engine.

Think it's worth buying? I just worry because I know I'm going to be unhappy with it and end up swapping out a majority of it for better parts.

get all the numbers of the motor first. might save you a little bit of driving if you are looking for something specific.
