like i said im not sure. it doesn't matter about cost though with the entire project or the heads with that matter. I know i am getting a great deal on all my parts but untill i go and pick it up i don't know the parts list yet. so untill then i wont really have an idea. But back to the entire first question. if you want to go that fast say 600+ rhp why do some people choose roller and some not???? i was told stay away from it, but just a question.

Your guy is probably not saying not to go roller.
He's saying not to go "hydraulic" roller.
Hydraulic roller cams are not as stable at high rpms as a solid roller cam and wont handle as aggressive cam profiles
600rwhp 408W will need to spin up to 6,500-7,000rpm and run like 14-15:1 compression on race gas.
Solid cams are better for this. You're pushing the limits of this engine into a true "race" engine
Hydraulic roller cams are just more street friendly.
Trust me, he's not going to use a flat tappet cam, which is what everyone is
trying to get away from when they do a "roller conversion"
You're still putting a better cam in there, you're just taking it beyond what most people do.
Its more of a thing where some people put hydraulic roller cams in and some want to eek every bit
of power out and use a solid roller cam.
Flat tappet cams that were stock are old school tech and require proper break-in, wear issues
and more friction involved, so make a little less power.

some one should post a picture of both lifters so he gets a better idea as to why one is better than the other. it all makes sense when you see the difference

Hydraulic Roller . has springs
Flat tappet that is the old stock type lifter, does not have the little roller on the end
that rides on the cam, and hence robs power from the extra friction

i meant a flat tappet and roller so he could see the clear difference. I know a few guys that took automotive classes and didnt know.

I thought the general rule of thumb was not to exceed 400 rwhp by much on a stock block 302, or 600ish on a stock block 351W. If you want more, an aftermarket block may be the only way to go. My 2 cents

If you want a picture a flat tappet then picture the roller lifter sans roller and a flat bottom
