500rwhp na pump gas 408?
Is it even possible? If so id love to see someproven build ups. I've seen plenty of guys make over 450rwhp on 93octane using some good top end components but not the best and alot of them were just out of the box performers. I've done alot of searching and haven't found too much on this subject. I just see quite a few guys running low low 10s and high 9s(with c4's) in the 1/4all motor with their 408s. Some pump gas some race fuel so im curious aside from obvious weight reduction and suspension in those cars how much potential this motor actually has.

ive seen builds were they have gottten 618hp.... so yes it is possible (i think it was in HOT ROD MAGAZINE) dont have the mag anymore so cant tell you, its just you need to spen a lot of money to get to that point, all the parts need to be properly matched. IT IS POSSIBLE

Hmm thats not that bad to be honest thats the fine line between race gas and pump gas with the right timing/tuning. The car wont be driven but a few times a month its just my toy and I've been fighting back and forth over the idea of going with a Boss block 331+ a Procharger when the funds permit or a heavily modded 408w. I know I could make more power with the 331+blower but I really just want a 10sec drag radial car with around 500rwhp. This car will have alot of weight reduction but not stripped to bare metal and it will have a full array of aftermarket suspension. Thanks for the info you guys.
Big heads you mean like an AFR 225? Or Victors? Id be using a TKO 5speed tranny and a custom ground cam no doubt and the gearing isn't a big deal. But what heads do you think would be a good investment r.barn. Maybe a head I could use out of the box with good port and polish potential. Can the AFRs be cleaned up anymore then they already are do you know?

no problem, just remeber the require special headers because of the high port design
Hooker part# 6226 is a 1 3/4" primary tube listed for TFS heads. Hooker headers http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku

Good to know but that could be a problem, I intended to possibly put the 408w into a 94GT. Hmmm I'll have to look into that a little more, may have clearance issues no? I may have to look into a different head that performs just as well we'll see.

Like previously stated, if you are looking for 500rwhp (rwhp being interpretive because chassis dyno can be so inaccurate) then you will have to go big, big cam, big heads and high compression.

Yea I am aware of the Victors and the Rs and I've checked out Bennet Racings website they use the cnc'd highports on their crate 408s. I figure id need atleast 600fwhp transfered through a TKO 5speed to make around 500rwhp assume 15%drivetrain loss as worst case scenario with an aluminum driveshaft. We'll see I just wanted to get some experienced opinions on what it would take, I may just stick with the 331 then procharge it a year down the road when I save up the cash. Less of a headache it seems. But it does help to know where those AFR 225s fall in that catagory so I wont even concider those if this is the route I take.
