Default To boost or not to boost?

Well guys, What todo!!!! *All C/R are approx. And are all at "0" deck!

With my 18cc dish pistons and a 58cc head, with a .041 gasket I yeild 10.9:1.

With my 18cc dish, a 76cc head, and a .060 gasket I get 8.9:1.

Now If I was to boost It would be added costs, And since I haven't got the head, camor carb yet I am not loosing anything. But How much boost can I safely run on 8.9:1? I would only like 550 to the wheels, And with CI custom cam i think that should be very acheivable with 10lbs of boost???????????

I could get the compression a little lower if need be. I do want to stay carb. So pretty much, I wont have the car done by this summer. I doubt it would be done anyways. It will be done for the summer after which is very ok with me.

Now If I was to boost it, The only s/c's that comes to mind would be a:

Dyer's 671! http://www.dyersblowers.com/1694.html

Or

BDS 6-71 blower

Or something very similar!

I Am willing to wait for the perfect engine setup and I like this idea? What do you guys think?

Oh and race only!

for the power you want to make, i would jack the compression ratio up a bit, and run it N/A with a good C/H/I combo, and do with out the $4000 in extra parts, and tuning issues. Either way your looking at premium fuel, and a good base tune. With N/A that base tune will be good for a while, and it will all fit under a normal size hood. im not against blowers, but with a stroked out 351 you can get to that level with out a power adder at all, and save a bunch of money and tuning headaches.

Yes thats very true. But when it comes time to pump out more power, I have another full build to do. If I boost the 408, and tune it to 550-600rwhp, then after It comes time I want mroe power All I have to do it up the boost!

You could run 20psi at 8.9 compression.
No need to drop it that far, IMO

and why a roots blower? those are really old technology.
Notice how no one in the pro stock circuit runs them anymore?

my 418 is gonna have no projected power output, it'll be what it'll be. Now the 427 going in my tube chassi notch project, that better be 700 RWHP or more.

Thanks to you Matt, I am now thinking about my old Goal! My old Gaol was to have a blown stroker! I left it alone and justhad the new goal of building a N/A stroker! Now I see you talking about blowing this, Blowing that! Now I changed my plans again!

BLOWER we i come!

New plan:

Build 9-9.5:1 C/R408w. Using 72cc heads, Custom blower cam, test/tune for a season (To get the suspension setup, and get some seat time)

Then tossBLOWER on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

run 10lbs to start, eventually work my way to 15-20 MAX! Then after I crack the block, Dart here I come!

just some thing to think about. friend of mine has a 408 with a d1 procharger like 15 psi pulley on a 302. he says it is only making 5 psi on his I think his gauge is off a bit but anyway it is carbed blow though. out of the box Edelbrock Victor jr's and a custom solid roller for boost in a 3400# car it runs 9.98 so how fast do you want to go? save your money for a good fuel system your gone to need it.
