351W in '98 6cyl????????

Heres the deal.... I have a '98 mustang 6cyl. with AT. I've been going over so many options for a motor my head hurts, lol. I recently found a truck with a 351W that I can get for cheap.... or atleast the motor for $600. Full setup with all acc.
I have been through countless pages on these forum's and no one has actually posted a full story on it.
It's a EFI motor, but should I leave it that way or go carbed due to wiring problems? Not to worried about the emissoins aspect..... What do I have to do to get the computer to work? Just use the motor harness and the computer? What about the fuel pump wiring or the dash wires or anything like that? As far as that goes, [sm=dontgetit.gif]
Any transmission problems I am going to have? Not sure if mine will work or not. I've seen some post's that say they will others that say they wont[sm=bicker.gif] lol. I also heard something about the struts not being able to be kept stock. Will a K-Mamber be needed? I also heard that it might be nescesary.

I will try to get pics up from before when I first got the car from the junk yard. To where its at now, and hopefully to where it is when I get this thing in there, [sm=groupwave.gif]
Any help would be much appreciated guys thanks
DJ

When I got this, The interior was trashed! and it was two toned grey/black. I dyed everything black, except the seats didnt take the dye.... I think they were scotch gaurded or something. Oh Well, I will switch them out later....

I hate flames but for some reason i think that car looks good and i would personally go 5.8 but make it a sleeper FTW and get rid of the toggle switch by the ashtray i hate those things.

Also I am pretty sure you'll need a k-member. As the 96+ v6 have a different one.

But headers, oil pan, engine, mounts...ect.... Will all be needed!

RE: 351W in '98 6cyl????????

Man after reading a little more, I realized these rearends are smaller too [:@] HHHMMMMM I dont think I really want to be swaping rearends and all, ****. Any 8.8" from any GT or Cobra should bolt right in right? I have cobra axels and a posi with 3.73 gears at my uncles but I got them thinking it already had the 8.8" in it [sm=wtf.gif]Maybe it wont be that bad. I'm sure I can find a setup for cheap enough....

Is the fuel system any different? at this rate im sure it probably is right?

if your doing a 5.8 swap then you will definitely need a new fuel system. and yes an 8.8 is a bolt in. get ready cause speed is money and how fast you want to go depends on how deep your pockets are.

Trust me I'm learning that, lol. Im not looking for balls out race car....... yet anyway. This is a project, I dont expect it to happen overnight.

What do you guys recomend for fueling a set up like this? obviously it all depends on the motor, but just trying to get some ideas of what and where to go to get them for the best price's....

The T5's that came in the cobras and GT's or the T45's should work shouldnt they with the proper bell housing? Obviously until I start putting some real power through it...

RE: 351W in '98 6cyl????????

in my experience patch jobs suck, if your going to put a manual in it, save up and do the conversion once. No sense setting it up for one tranny now, and then having to change things later.

As far as fueling goes, it depends on if you are going fuel injection, or carb, For a carb with mild mods, a holley blue pump with 120~130 gph should be fine with a regulator and -6an line. i was running a pretty stout power plant off a blue pump and that car made 491 RWHP. The new mill is a lot more than the old one and i am stepping up to the "black" series pump, and the reccomended regulator. i also need to get a 950 pr larger carb.

if your going with EFI then a drop in 255lph pump may do the trick, and you can always ad an inline pump later to boost the fuel.

God I love this site:D So many helpfull peeps.

I am still undecided as far as the carb set up or EFI....... Im gonna get the short block and heads together and go from there. Like I said before, I dont know jack about tuning it to get it to run. I know they are alot more responsive and once done easier to maintain. And you more or less can figure out whats wrong with it by plugging in the scanner (which is awsome, but sometimes wrong). lol another story.......
