My 351C proj....
Hi everyone,im Pablo.
I always had 5.0s .
I have a 1987 stang gt hatchback, my 5th one...
I wanna throw a 351C on it ,something that i never did before.I have the engine allready4v,i know that 351C are stronger that the 302 and i need to know if you guys can help me...
I wanna throw a tubing front in(can i do that?)
What kind of motormounts i need?302 OR 351
Does the t-5W(cobra upgrade)that i havebolts in the 351C?
What kind a flyweel and cluch i need?
Do i have to change the rear end ,control arms, driveshaft?
Do i have to weld subframe conectors ?
Thoes are my questions .I take recomendations too....
Now i kinda know what kind of cam, intake and carb i want but i take recomendations .......
I know it takes Money ,Time and Efr ....

RE: My 351C proj....
I'm in the middle of the same project in my 83, so hopefully I can offer you some help.
You can use motormounts from a 302, but you may certainly want to consider getting some beefier mounts to handle the extra power, because I know on all of my 302s, I tore the factory mounts to peices, so I can only imagine how the more powerful Cleveland motor is going to react.
The t-5 will work, as the cleveland accepts the same bolt pattern bellhousing as it's smaller 302 counterpart. Whether you actually want to use a t-5 or not is another question entirely. My 302s tended to have that same problem as my motor mounts destroying T-5s, so like the mounts, I can't image a t-5 will last too long with the more powerful cleveland in it.
Flywheel and clutch is pretty dependent on what you are doing with this car and the motor. That's really something you will have to research, knowing what the car will be used for in mind.
I wouldn't say you have to change the rear end, but you may want to have it strengthened and get a new set of gears, depending on what your factory 8.8" has in it currently. Changing control arms isn't something that needs to be done, but it will certainly help to get that power to the ground. The driveshaft, I'm not completely positive on, but I do believe it will work.
You don't HAVE to weld subframe connectors in, but I stronegly suggest it. Our cars tend to fold the bodies from the power in a stock 302, so I wouldn't, and I'm not, chancing it by not welding in a lot of support.
Other then that, it's really not an extremely complicated build at all. You will need headers for the swap, and you will need an oil pan made for this project as well. You will want to replace the K-Member as well.
Good luck with it
