Default 351 and c4 bolting problem

ok so im workin on my 351w and c4 tranny..and took a while to find the rite flywheel that would work..and now im ruing into a problem when i go to bolt it up...the bolts on the type of the bellhousin to the block botl in fine..but the two on the sides tighten up all the way before the gap is closed between the block and the block and the bell..ne suggestions wat migth be going wrong? me and a buddy took it off and re did it several times?

and a side question...does the flywheel need to be bolted up the torque converter? ive heard it doesnt matter...but i tried both ways during the process of tryin to get it al bolted up

The converter HAS to be bolted to the flywheel for the engine and tranny to be connected!

But are the bolts bottoming out? How long are they? try putting them in without the bellhousing. If they bottom out in the thread, measure the distance between the block and the head of the bolt (Where the bell housing would sit, between the block and bolts head)

Maybe try a shorter bolt. But LMK, Nik!

The thickness of the bellhousing might vary from the top holes. So Just try and it report back.

make sure your converter is all the way in the transmission, it has to slip in the pump and engage the gears.. also, what size bell do you have 164tooth or 157?
