You can use the link bar lifters with a standard cam. That is the application they were designed for.
i thought they were designed b/c they are easier to use than the dog bones and spider tray.

But I think you were talking about http://www.cranecams.com/?show=brows...umber=36532-16 <these were designed for non-roller blocks.

you have to understand that roller lifers, linked or stock, are taller than flat tappet lifters

this causes oil issues in the non-roller blocks b/c the lifter bosses are shorter

1 last time, its so simple its not even funny

Link bar lifters have been around for decades and decades, in the form of solid rollers.

You have TWO choices using a NON roller block, whether its a 302 or 351, they both use an .874 lifter.

Choice #1
Use the stock 302 lifters, dogbones and spider tray in your non roller block, you MUST use a small base circle cam, these are junk, ask any respected cam guy or engine builder, dont care what the peanut galley here says, I built a few of these small fords since 89'

Choice #2 Use the comp or crane link bar hyd roller lifters in your NON roller block and use ANY standard base circle hyd roller camshaft. By standard base circle I mean any of the jillion readily available off the shelf camshafts.

Real SIMPLE, it cant be spelled out any clearer than the above.

woody, I dont understand what the problem here is, I already summed it up. I didnt make anything more complicated. The only difference between what I said and what you said it I tried to make it clear that Crane and comp cams make lifters specificly for 69-93 blocks. And are different than the standard linked bar roller lifters that they sell. These lifters for the older blocks have not been around for decades. And are designed to solve oil issues at high rpms.

Some you can, and some you can't. I found this description at Summit Racing

----------------------------
Crane Cams 36532-16

Crane hydraulic roller lifters are designed for easy installation without machining on late model blocks, and they feature check-ball internal valving to prevent pump-up. They're precision CNC-machined, and many are equipped with Crane's anti-rotation guide bars. These lifters are available in an OE version, and in a retrofit version for vehicles without OE hydraulic roller lifters.

----------------------------

And this comes from the Crane web site: "Vertical locking bar design to retrofit pre-hydraulic roller blocks. No machining required for installation"

After reading these descriptions, I think it may still be a little ambiguous for each specific part. I'm just not sure. I would check with the manufacturer before buying.

If you will read above again you will see I stated that a link bar lifter in the form of solid rollers have been around for decades, nowhere did I say a hyd roller link bar has been around for decades. Carry on, I will now leave it to the engine builders on this forum.

As stated above numerous times...link bar lifters are available for use in non roller blocks. Hydralic or solid. The hydralics have been around for just a few years. The solids have been around for a little longer. The reason alot of people don't use them is they are typically expensive. In non roller blocks they and the reduced base circle cams are the only two options. This question has been asked numerous times on here and other forums. Running a roller cam in a non roller block is not cheap. Shadetree ideas will cost you more in the longrun.
