Default 99 mustang 351w swap

I just picked up a 99 mustang v6 for cheap and own a 351w with low mileage. I have never swaped out an engine before and was wondering if there were any good shops around in texas that are reasonable on price and about how much do you thank it would cost? The engine is carbed and relatively stock except for cam. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Looking for the same info but i got a 01 gt. I'm pretty sure this is way I'm going if i can get some good info on the swap. I know you need a k-member out of a 94-95. Can just get a tube k from GMS for $260 or so.... but the rest i have no clue. All i know is if the swap is pretty strait forward, I'm game. You can build a 650+hp 408 with top of the line parts for 9 grand or much less if you skimp on name brand parts but that's not gonna be the way i build my motor if it happens. Cool link i found while looking up 351w build ideas, pretty good read.

Like the OP, i too am looking for some in depth "how to" info. thanks a ton.

CBSTANG99, I have some questions on this matter posted on other forums and also making some calls for info on this as well. If i run into any useful info i will shoot you a PM.

You need a k-member out of a 94-95, motor mounts for the 5.0 motor. I'm looking into which k-member will give you the best clearance atm so header fitment will be less of an issue. Do you want to go fuel injected or carb? You need the computer and all the wiring, sensors, harnesses ext ext if you went injected. Carb setup is gonna be the best bet for simplicity and cost. If you're lucky like me and don't require a emissions test in your area you can run a carb set up and not worry about anything, if that's what you wanted to go with. The headers used for the 87-93 351 swaps will work from what i have gathered it just finding a set the will not have clearance issues with the k-member or steering shaft. Will keep you posted if i get more info

Yeah i am going with the carb setup. I can work better on carburetors than on efi motors. I was also wondering if a ford 9 inch rear from a bronco would fit and if so what kind of mods need to be done to make it work if any? Sorry about all the questions but this is my first mustang projct and i feel like a rookie. Just trying to get peoples honest opinoins. thanks alot.

To be honest i would stick with a 8.8 inch, they are a dime a dozen and with a good set of 31 spline axles and a differential it will hold together just fine. It's not going to be as heavy as the 9 inch either. If you really are set on that 9 inch i would think someone makes a swap kit out there but i could be wrong. They do make 9 inch setups modified to bolt into the fox chassis i know that for sure. What did the 351 you plan on using come out of and do you plan on putting it in there as it is or are you going to have any machine work done to it?

The 351 windsor came out of an 83 bronco and i do plan on having it bored and blueprinted. Not sure how crazy i am going to get with it but as of right now it has a cam, msd ignition and high pressure oil pump. I dont know if the headers on it will pose any problems n the mustang guess ill cross that bridge when i come to it. But i have a holley 4 barrel 650cfm carb that i been wanting to throw on it but i will have to wait till i drop the engine in. Plan on making the swap a the first of the year just saving up right now.

Well its started, gonna go for broke I'm in it deep now. Removed all the wiring, brake and fuel lines, bumpers and attaching brackets and front quarter panels. Removed all found rust in the engine bay and under quarter panels, de-greased and rough sanded and ready for final sanding and wipe down. Should have the engine bay painted tomorrow and maybe have the k member mounted too if the clear coat is set up by later in the day. Will post pics when i get the front suspension on. All the wiring i swear must be 40-60 lbs sheesh. Got all the plugs from the factory harness labeled and took pics of how it all went incase i decide to put it back the way it was. Pretty easy, just took my time and everything came out very nicely. I am going to just get a painless wiring kit to rewire everything nice and neatly and not have 50 bundles of wires, gonna be fun. I have a dart 351 block lined up to buy when I'm ready and cool thing is i got a 84 gt with a t-5 and bellhousing and a old 351 block I'm going to use to mock everything up so that should be fun too. I spoke to a very knowledgeable guy *forgot his name :P* at promotion power train and he's got me hooked up with a upgraded t-5 trans, clutch, flywheel and driveline. This guy has heaps of info and was a huge help. This is somthing im going to be in for the long haul and it's going to get done and not left hanging. I will post updates and pics as i go along so when you start you will have some type of a reference to go by if needed. It's pretty nice cause everything came out so easy and in one piece so god forbid it has to go back its pretty easy to see where it all went. Will get pics up asap, maybe in a day or so if nothing comes up at work to slow me down.
