400 hp with gt-40 heads

Could I get 400 hp with gt-40 heads on a 351w with the right set up.

with boost....

but why would you want to even try?

I have a set of gt-40 heads off of a 96 explorer. Just wondering how much power i could get out of a 351 with them. I see a build up with the gt-40p heads on a 351 and they made 380hp.

i seriously doubt that. ive seen a couple 347 builds with gt40 heads not make over 330 rwhp... site your sources, or its BS!

Maybe at the flywheel with some really good port work and all the supporting mods. I'd scrap that idea unless that all you have to work with.

Check this build up out with gt-40p 373 hp at fly wheel I never said rwhp. If you had some port work bigger exuaust valve, bigger Roller cam, and bigger intake. I don't see why it wouldn't be knocking on 400 fly wheel hp. I know the gt-40 would be a little less than the gt-40p but not that much. Check out the whole wright up sorry but ford lost. http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...que_power.html

do you always believe what you read in magazines???

and as far as putting port work into those heads...
unless you have the tools and proper equipment to get everything to flow the same, you wont see potential like that. After PAYING a professional to get you results like that, you could have just bought a REAL set of heads, and made 400RWHP

I guess you don't because you didn't read the article, they didn't port on the heads and made 373 hp and 414 TQ so if I did nothing It should flow those numbers and if I did a little work it's got to help. If i had the money I would get a better set but this is all I have to work with know.

who says that their dyno is reading properly?
Are you aware that P's need to be machined to fit a 351w?
magazines are all about making things *look* good... but I have never seen any REAL WORLD results like that.... ever

well well well

I love how people talk trash with any knowledge on what they are talking about. 400 hp is not out of the question with those heads. I have been building engines for over 25 years mostley fords because I like them to stay together when I am finished. I just completed a 351w for my 71 spring time edition torino. its a 74 block bored .030 keith black domes speed pro rings factory crank and rods balanced comp cams 280h 512 lift hydrolic cam air gap intake edelbrock 750 with 69 351 windsor heads very mild porting comp cams roller tip rockers msd ignition. on the dyno and yes this dyno works properly it made 433hp and 442 foot pounds of torque @ 5500rpm and I have less than 2000.00 in it. Just rember its not how much money you put into it its all about getting the correct combination of parts:D
