302 efi to 351 carbed
My car has over 170xxx miles on it and is starting to burn a lot of oil so i know i got to rebuild it. But a local guy on a site here is selling abunch of 351w parts. I was just wondering your opinions on how hard it would be going from 302 efi to a carbed setup and if that would be a good idea. And if it would fit under my current hood. Here are the parts he has for sell, i dont know if the prices are good, not really sure what they go for so if someone wants to chime in and let me know that would be great. thanks

I was also wondering how hard converting it to roller is. I've read what you have to do but just wondering if anyone has done it themselves?

all youll need are hydro roller link bar lifters, and the right head set-up for a roller cam. not sure what year block that it is but i have a 93 block and thats how im doin it. as far as converting it to carb, id say yes thats the way to go. it will end up beeing cheaper in the long run and give you less head aches and if done right, more power. if you do the efi to carb set-up the right way then its a piece of cake. i did it to my 87 and it consisted of removing entire engine harness, fuel pump and lines, installing low pressure fuel pump, regulator, new fuel lines and new ignition. youll want to do all of this with a bigger engine upgrade so its gonna get done no matter what

Well that definitely helped me out as well.I am wanting to take this piece of crap 302 out and drop a 351w at the first of the year.After reading your posts,I like the idea.I was considering efi and then after this headache I have with this 302,I am going to go carb.I only question is,can it be daily driven? Thats my most important thing.I have another mustang,but I want to drive my 90 and a 351 under the hood would be nice.

people drove carbs daily for 60-70 years before EFI was becoming standard.
what makes you think technology reversed itself and carbs are no longer DD'able? |
I've been told that carbs just aren't as dependable as efi,but I don't know anymore b/c my efi setup isn't very dependable at the moment

Do you think it would clear under my hood? This has become the decision maker for me

personally i love carbd set ups. they look more rad. and there are less electronics to worry about. if you run into issues with your carb its not hard to figure out. but if you run into efi issues.....well i hate efi and electronic. im going from 302efi to a radical 351 bored and stroked to a 461 carb, so i am bias. good luck on the decision though.

I don't have experience with that hood but I have a 4" cowl because a 2.5" didnt fit with an air cleaner. It would be cheaper and eaiser to stroke the 302 to 347 than to do the 351. Now if you were going 408 then thats different.
