8.8" or 9" rearend for 351W build?
I am going to be slowing piecing together the stuff for a 351w swap. I currently have a 2000 GT so it will be taking a while. Anyways I was wondering if you guys think a built 8.8" rearend will hold up for when I swap the 351w? A built 8.8" rearend to me means 33 spline axles, spool etc.
Let me know what you guys think.

^^^ No sir, it won't be a DD. I am actually going to be getting a LSD until the swap/the 8.8" rearend breaks (if it does). Once I get the rearend built I will start saving for the swap.
Also do you think it would be a bad idea to get a spool if I'm not going to be going the trailer to track and back on the trailer? Heard people say spools are terrible for in town driving.

the 8.8 with 33 spline will work just fine . As for the spool I have been running one for 2 years now and some nights I put 100+ miles on the car it is fine. real tight turns like in parking lots you will know it is there but out on the street around curves and such I don't even notice it. other then you hear the tires scrub at times. it does seem to wear out the rear tires faster then with the LSD but it is a small price to pay when I get to the track and it spins both tires every time without worries if and when it is gone to wear or brake the clutches. you could move up to a Detroit locker they are better then clutch type rears but they can be noisy and clunk in tight turns as does the spool. But with running a spool I do keep a eye on the under side of the car like the torque boxes and control arm mounts to see if they are bending or tearing . But any Mustanger should. We run 275/60 15 DR most all the time but we do switch over to the same size BFG street radials not Drag Radials. if we are gone to drive it a whole lot as the DR wear out fast and they are not cheap.

I'd go with the 8.8. An 8.8 is less parasitic and can handle a lot of hp. I'd also go with the spool. I had 1 in my 01 Trans Am in a 9" rear and loved it. But the only time that car was in a parking lot was to hang out. Driving the car in normal conditions you'll never know the spools in there. It's a nice feeling knowing when you stomp on the gas both wheels are gonna be powered.
