Fair question. Reason being I don't want to go with a s/c or turbo setup, don't ask me why I just don't and without f/i on a 4.6 you can't make good good N/A power. So the only other option is more cubes and spray

I have found a 351w for sale here for $250 and he would sell me a C6 for $100. But I'm not a fan of an auto so I will just be picking up the motor and accessories.

anything can make big power just need big bucks but as far as the motor go see if its in good condition i don't see why not, you said you would be rebuilding it anyway but i would most likely keep it in a garage to me dropping it in to just pull it later and rebuild it is more of a headache. (then again you might not rebuild it for like a few months and a motor taking up lots of space doing nothing isn't fun either)

wait wait wait...

not being able to make NA power on a modular is BS.

yes F/I is the easy way to do it, but of you want 400rwhp, then you can get there no problem with a mod engine.

either stroke and poke it out, or go with a 5.4 block.

use some new TF TW heads and port them, match them with a good set of modular cams, rev it to 7000rpm, through longtubes and i'd be willing to bet most anything that 400rwhp will happen.

and keep all your accesories

and be lighter than a 351W

and look stock

and not need all the BS swap parts.

if you want a pushrod engine, get a pushrod car. otherwise, enjoy the benefits of a superior design and make it work.

hell id be more proud to make big NA power on a modular than a pushrod.

why?

because like you said, no one does it.

^^^ Good points! I have been going back and forth with what I want to do, 5.4 or 351w. Thing though is with a H/C/I 5.4 I would be making around 400rwhp. But I could add cams and a 100 shot to my current set up and be making that or close to it.

I have been thinking about what I want to do lately. I have priced up approximate costs of the 5.4 swap and the 351w swap. When I posted this thread I was hoping just to do a half assed swap, save some money now and spend later to make it what I want. But I have come to the conclusion that if I am going to do the swap I am going to do it right, not half assed. So the 400rwhp isn't what I am looking for, it's the 351w that makes good power, runs in the 10s at the track and has street drivability.

On a MOD Motor just bolt on some trick flow heads and supercharge it.

Forge the bottom and get more .

They boost a Forged 5.4 and get 500 Crank HP.So doing it Naturally will cost much more than it is worth.

400rwhp is quite a lot.

The 351w will do it .

These are all good points, but... the cost of it is usually the deterant. The power you can make for the buck way favors the pushrod engine. The pain in the *** of putting a 5.4 in your 99-04 with clearance issues and the fabercation it takes, another reason it's easier to go pushrods, and my 3rd but not final reason, look at it this way, you can get a cam for the 5.8l for $200 or less, just to get a stage II cams for a mod motor your looking at $450+ not counting the piston to valve clearance problems you'll have, and lets not even start with the cost of forging the mod, unless you start with a 5.4L, the 4.6l will require the crank, rods, and pistons, another $2000 at least. If your starting with the 5.4l you don't even want to know what it takes to put 3 or 4 valve heads on it and to deal with the exhaust manifolds issues, and nothing is made for it, thats all custom work required there.

If I where you......

buy a good nitrous kit. spray your car with a 125shot for fun.

build up a 351w in the mean time, and have all parts ready to go. then do the swap. that way if it takes you a year or so to get all the parts, your still driving your car, and having fun while on the bottle at the track while you get everything ready for the swap.

a 408w with 205-225cc heads, a decent cam can make 400rwhp pretty easy. Add a 200shot ontop of that and its a absolute beast.

im planning on swaping a stroked 351 into my fox, but my goal is 500rwhp, before the 200 shot.
