I am currently looking at buying the car that is running this combo. The car runs 11.44 up here all day on spray with 105 AV gas. I was considering swapping to e-85 and may turbo this winter if I get it, but till then looking at some 185cc heads and a custom cam swap. hoping for low 11's on engine and low 10's up here on spray with e-85 cause its cheaper then 105 AV gas here. Now if the car preforms as expected with 185 heads and cam swap it should be a solid 10's on motor at lower altitude and 9's on spray witch is plenty fast enough for me.

I would not run any head smaller then 200CC range for the 408 and could run one much bigger. as far as cam call a grinder up and talk with them to have done for you. For pistons you will need to know the CCs of the combustion chambers of your heads. What cam you are gone to run. 408s make compression very easy so start looking at kits and see what they say in the kit where the compression is suppose to end up at.
I think this looks like a good combo and advice. I was thinking he was using stock crank and forged pistons and rods when I listed the combo in the 93 I am looking at.
The 205 AFR with nitrous exhaust port option or the 225 AFR and a custom cam by Chris Straub would have that thing going great N/A, and then throw on a 100-125 shot at the track and your looking at high-mid 9's depending on converter, gears, tires, suspension, and weight of car. This is thinking keeping the cam on the more street friendly side but going retro hydro roller plus the car more street friendly so 3.73 or 4.10 gears, 275-60-15 M/T DR's, stock style suspension with a few upgrades, full weight car with chrome molly cage and frame supports. the car would be in the 3950 range with driver? not sure think last full weight car I had a 89 LX was close with cage and driver to that. For a carb I would look into a 780cfm as the smallest and thinking a 980cfm from pro systems they actually flow closer to 880cfm so would be about perfect on your 408CI with a hydro roller and AFR 205's and a small hit of N20 at the track. If you keep the comp in the 9.0:1-9.5:1 could run 91-93 octane on street and track. So a pump gas motor that runs high 10's N/A and high 9's on a small shot. Or put some comp in it and run e-85 maybe 12.0:1-13.0:1 comp could still spray a 100-125 with e-85. personally the lower comp would be good cause no special carb needed and if you decide to go turbo later you wont need to take it down to redo it. turbo's make a lot more power and from my experience run great on the street. but build it N/A now with thoughts about turbo when cash allows. just my wandering thoughts sorry.
the link below is Chris Straubs web site. He does some real nice cams for the lsx and BBC crowd and they flat out run. I would talk to him about the build he knows more then me and if he can't answer your question he most likely knows someone who can.

for the AFR heads I would get them from Mike Lewis AKA wolfplace on Team Chevelle. He really knows his engines and will get you the best price on the best head for your engine. He is a AFR dealer. and a very stand up engine guy. He did the cam in my 468CI 685hp BBC in my sig. Here is his web site.
