Just a little ? on a 427 build
ok so i own a mostly stock 91 gt im shipping out for bct on my 29th when i get out of ait i'm going to put a down payment on a 427 short block from fordstrokers. what I'd like to know is what pistons cam and heads i should run. I was looking at bored 4.040, 22 CC dish pistons, their custom cam looking for rpm band from 2500 to 6500, dart pro 1 cnc 225 heads that say they have 62cc comb chambers 1.6.1 rockers and a edlebrock dual quad intake (which i am dead set on) with a progressive linkage. Im looking for a streetable 450 to the wheels. Does this setup look like it'll make that?
The end game is a caged fun car with a back seat set up with a 427 t-56 magnum and a built nine inch.
Any suggestions?

I think you should do some study and planning for just what in the car before buying anything.
I would also wait until your military will get you more funds and also for some stabilization at some post somewhere before you do much.
There are all sorts of ways to build a 251W stroker motor.....

You should not use BCT and AIT money for this project.
Also, Tell Jim what you are looking for power wise, and he will do the rest. He can sell you a complete longblock, thats just needs the accessories bolted on, then dropped in.

that money is mostly going into savings it's not going to be wasted also the point of the short block was so that a good friend of mine and I can build the top end (he just finished a 331 build for a 64 ford pickup) but you make a good point and ill look into that ive already been advised over on the corral to talk to woody when i get ready to do this(woody-jim same person?) Also i'll be leaving for bct as a E3 and hopefully once im out of ait i will be an E4 once i get settled in at my first duty station my first R&R i plan on starting the teardown... if i don't bring her with me...

If this is your dd dont tear it down, especially right before going to basic. E-3 isnt **** for pay. The only thing going for an E-3 is living in the barracks and not having many bills to pay. When you get to your first duty station the only thing you are going to want is something drivable and some cash to spend.

Lesson #2. Heed the advice of the guy who has just finished his tour overseas, and knows the EPR and EPS system. (that would be me)
Lesson #3. Privates love getting into debt. Now that you are going to have this large influx of cash (which, depending on your BCT/AIT, and your allowances will only be about $6,000.) You should take this time to save your money. $6000 in a 12 month CD can net some decent interest.
Lesson #4. Do not rush into building your car. If you do, you will either mess something up, choose parts poorly (like the carb you want to be ***** deep in) or will get 3/4 of the way through and run out of money.
My advice to you: This hobby isn't cheap. The economy is doing some really stupid things right now. The fuel you will need to run that thing will soon be $7 a gallon or more. I STRONGLY suggest you wait on building the engine, do some suspension mods... maybe throw a full exhaust on the car.
From one Joe to another... take my advice, I've been there. I'm not trying to steer you wrong battle.
