new to siteand need your expertise on 351w
hey everyone, I am new to this site, and was told by a couple buddies to geton here to get help with my build.... First off.. I am not building a mustang.... I have a f-150 race truck for shortcourse racing in the 'stock truck" class... we can run a factory casting block, factory casting heads (gt-40p's) can be used..360cubic inch max. and must run on pumped gas. oh and has to be carborated.... So what do ya'll think i can do on a budget, but get the most hp i can get out of this thing??? thnaks in advance for any and all help....

what cam? light weight rods and pistons are your friend.can you port the heads? is this a dirt track? 4 or 2 wheel drive? how much do you want to spend? what intake can you run? how much gear can you run. what are you calling short track. what trans are you gone to run?

ok bare with me here casue i dont know much about motors, I just got off the phone with the guy from cam motion, the cam i have he says this....its a hydraulic lifter cam, duration on int. 236 exh 240....lift on int. 528 exh. 536 lobe seperation 112 intake lobe center line is 108...i have a edelbrock performer intake, some bbk shorty headers and a holley carb...i believe its a 650..these are parts i just picked up along the way... not sure if they will all work together or not..... the trans...i was told to runu a c4and change the planetarys to the 6sprag gears? and was tol the c4 robs less hp. than a c6....but can run either... were gonna run 6:00 to 6:50 gears in the 9" top speed on these trucks round the big sweeper is only 65 to 70 max.

Try the cam sounds like it should pull good through mid range and should pull some up top also. But your heads are gone to hold you back some up top. Can you have them ported?? You said factory cast parts does that mean it must carry a ford part number but can be made by someone else like the old Iron N heads that were for dirt track racing. Could you move over to a Cleveland style head with a Ford PT#? what do the rules really say? LOL
I would be looking to run a victor JR intake if you are gone to revving this thing like it sounds or at lease a Performer RPM. Them shorty headers gone. put a good long tube on the thing they offer more torque down low and help out with better scavenging up top in the RPM. Try the 650, may need to move up may work fine. C4 trans well it should also be fine if it is built right 6 pinion planetary would be wise good red clutches and kevlar bands with a full manual valve body to shift it will work and like said much lighter then the C6.
6.00 to 6.50 gears ok, but how tall is the tire? and if you are gone to rev that thing and use a stock rod you should have truck rods and good rod bolts and if you are gone to bore it find the lightest cheapest piston you can that will help with reliability when you are spinning the crap out of it and it will let it rev faster.Good luck

thr rules state that it has to be a factory casting iron head, thats all it says..lol so i am assuming we can do head work on the heads, i know some other guys have got to me doing this already....the tire size is a 33" tire were running a 32 now, but will eventually run 33's....e
