Question What 351 is this??

I'm looking for another Mustang, and have found one I'm interested in. Unfortunately, the owner bought the car two years ago and has no idea where the 351 in it came from. He does know that it is mated to a c6 auto transmission.

Can anyone tell by the picture what 351 is in the car?

Looks small to be a 351 to me..... Could be a 351 Windsor kinda hard to tell it just looks so short.

Can you get the engine casting numbers that will tell you what it is.

Here is a 351 Cleveland

351 Windsor

Best way to tell is get the casting number off of the block. It should be located around the starter.

Looks like a Windsor to me. What did you want it to be?

I figured it is a Windsor. I understand some Windsors are weak, while others run strong. I was hoping the engine was one of the hard pulling ones.

Any engine can be built to run good. go for a ride in it if it "pulls hard" and you like it buy it.

It's a Windsor, the Cleveland thermostat mounts on top of the block, and on the Windsor it goes in from the front into the intake. Compare the pics above for reference.

As LockNLoad said, definitely Windsor. Whether or not it's a 351 or a 302 will be told be the casting numbers. Check the headers and oil pan as well. If they are aftermarket there's a chance it's a 351, especially the oil pan. Both headers and oil pan need to be swapped to aftermarket offerings to be put in a fox for clearance issues.
