Default question about 427w project

I'm in the process of getting parts together for a summer project. I have a 87 notchback that i picked up for pretty cheap a while back. I've decided to turn it into a street/strip car. My list so far is:

1. Coasthigh.com
a. 427w reverse dome -22cc piston all forged $3,615.00
2. Summitracing.com
a. AFR 205cc 58cc renegade heads
b. Harland sharp rocker arms
c. Edelbrock super victor intake manifold
d. Quick fuel q-series 4 barrel carburetors
e. MSD billet ready to run distributors
3. Latemodelrestoration.com
a. FRPP power steering pump bracket w/o ac
b. Professional products 28oz balancer kit
c. LRS drop solid motor mounts
d. Canton street/strip oil pan kit
e. MSD blaster coil
f. Blast coil bracket
g. FRPP 9mm spark plug wires
h. MSD 6AL-2 ignition box
i. FRPP High performance roller lifters
j. FRPP hardened push rods
k. SVE 130 amp alternator upgrade kit
4. Americanmuscle.com
a. BBk long tube headers w/off road h-pipe
5. Lunatipower.com
a. Street/strip solid roller, .621/.621 LSA 106 Dur. @.50: 256/264 # 40350524

My plan is to run power steering and power brakes, no a/c or heat. My trans is a TKO600 i had sitting around. possibly throw a set of 3.73 or 3.55's in the rear with a set of 31 spline axles. I'm not building a dedicated drag car or a dedicated street car. Just something with a little juice that I can play with and take to the track whenever I feel like it.

Now for my questions. I have had afr 205 heads on a 347 stroker way back and i loved them. However i keep reading that they are nothing more then a "glorified ported head" (i believe is what i read) that the trick flow twisted wedge heads are much better. My question is are they better? and if so do you need custom headers for them?

I'm not trying to build for over kill just something to have fun with considering this will be my last project for a while since me and my wife would like to have a baby within the next year or two.

If anyone has any inputs they are more then welcome.

I used 245cc TFS High Ports on my 427W, but my build is a fairly serious street/strip setup. I'm sure the 205cc AFRs are fine for a pump gas street setup. I am partial to TFS though. I had custom headers built for mine because I moved the engine all the way back, almost touching the firewall. Standard windsor swap headers wouldn't fit my car.

Are the header flanges different on the trick flow twisted wedge heads compared to the AFR's? I only asked because I've seen header flanges specifically for trick flow twisted wedge heads.

I believe they are different, but I personally have High Ports, not twisted wedges.

You need something in the 220-240 range on a 427. As for the header flange - the high port has a different style, since the exhaust ports sits higher than the stock location, thus the name. I believe the high ports have the spaced bolt pattern too, so you can run a standard flange, or one that will accommodate a primary bigger than 1 3/4.

Your best bet is to contact George @ Accufab. He builds custom headers, that's who did mine

I would agree with you on getting the bigger 220-240 head if I was worried about a more race car oriented build. Im just looking for a sweet very zippy street car that I race maybe 2-3 times a year. I was talking about the header flange for the twisted wedge heads. Are high ports better then twisted wedge??

High ports will deliver my air, but you have to have a big enough motor to take advantage of that.

The header flange on a twisted wedge is the same location and has the same bolt pattern as the stock heads

If you are set on a twisted wedge, you need a 205cc head. That's the biggest TW I believe, and the same head I run on my 393

Alright good to go thanks for the info.
Now what size fuel pump do you think would be big enough. I was looking at the holley blue pump?
