Default manual tranny shifter ???s

Is there a post in here containing information on Hurst, or any other after market, shifter? I was curious about the cost and installation difficulty.

Thanks.

http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...fter/index.php try here for install and Ebay for price. Depending on your capability it ain't too hard if youve turned wrenches for a while.[sm=icon_rock.gif]

Actually it is pretty easy. Hardest part is removing the stock shifter as it takes a little finese (words in the directions, not mine). Check out this link for more info.

I was actually wondering myself... I've heard that the Hurst shifter does not come with stop bolts and that this can be a problem. Some have written that there are built in stops but others have claimed that these are not sufficient. Anyone?

rfruscel, If you are a hard core Gear head ( going to the strip or street racing" Which I do not SUPPORT AT ALL!!" ) Those guys swear by them, If you are really into bangin gears with an all out assault on your Stang than be my guest, but If you want a good shifter, less throw, tighter gate and will only get into it once in a while, than the stop bolts , to me anyways, are not crucial. The Hurst is awsome, plus the retro look got me hooked, and once I installed it and used it I smiled from ear to ear!

the stop bolts are good because you wont be putting un-needed stress on the internalbearings.. stress contributed by force of the shift fork forced in a direction

a common bad habbit is resting your hand on the shifter. you odnt realize it but your putting stress on that gears bearings.. often enough tranny failures are due to that cause

I agree, but if they are not properly adjusted, same scenario both ways, too much or not enough will not allow proper aligned contact of gears, so when the gears are meshed, damage may occur, may! Again, if you are a mechanic that turns wrenches all the time, like you and others, this may not pose a problem, adjusting the stop bolts properly that is, but..... others may not. The shifter might come with instructions on said proceedure, but again unless you are a hard core gearhead, you are better off with easier HURST.[sm=icon_cheers.gif]
