Default CAI / Exhaust for '06 V6

I just took delivery on my new '06 V6 and was interested in adding a CAI system and possibly exhaust. As for CAI I am prob going to go with the K and N setup. Has anyone installed the K and N CAI and recorded any MPG increases/decreases? I would love the increrase in HP, but with gas now about $3/gallon any decrease in milage would be a bummer. Also looking for similar info for exhaust systems. Also, the service tech at the Ford dealer told me I would need to reprogram the factory settings to compensate for the K and N install. Is this neccessary? Thanks for any info you gusy can give me!

Yes you would have to reprogram the factory settings i believe with that c&l...just dont take it into the dealers with a custom tune or they might void your factory warranty.

From what I can remember, at www.v6mustangstuff.com, it states that the K&N Aircharger CAI is a 7.54 HP increase at 4996 RPM Guarenteed HP it says, and it also states that a compter reflash is NOT required. Sounds like a good deal to me, atleast K&N isnt filling our heads with BS like "25 more HP instantly, 50lb/ft torque immediatly" They stated an honest 7.54 HP Gain.

Welcome. I have an 06 V6 and the pony trim. I did the K&N CAI with no retune - have not had a real chance to test it out. But it runs very well. K&N did not recommend the retune upon purchase and the tech that helped me did not recommend one either. I'll let you know if that changes.
I also put the Magnaflow Axle Back on and found a serious change in sound, slight in power, major in the looks from the back.
Both went on very well, especially the Magnaflow axleback - it is very much a OEM repalcement and bolt on R&R. The K&N CAI needed a little work and took some time, but went well. I have also put a mini-mask on for protection, and a little for looks. Really compliments the pony grill.

Very nice Car - enjoy.

I looked into duals, but you have to replace the rear facia/bumper which is about $250 plus install/paint. The job was becoming a $1500 job, and that was all on a brand new car. The single axle-back from Magnaflow is great - everyone tells me it sounds as throaty as the V8, and has only a low hum in the cabin at cruising speed. I never thought I could be happy with a single exhaust, but here I am very happy. I also had plenty of money left for some of the other mod's.

Has anyone on here tried the MMR intake? It is another that says no retune required.

I know it is the general opinion here that you need to put on a CAI and a custom tune but my problem is I paid to have an extended warranty and I don't want to lose it. The whole reason I bought my Mustang was becuase I was in a 2001 Rodeo that I was spending 300 to 700 dollars every few months on no covered repairs and owed way more on it than it was worth. So another question along that line if I order a CAI/tuner package from someone like Bamachips can I have tuner store the factory settings so if I need to take it in to the dealer for work I can reflash it and replace the stock intake? Would the dealer be able to tell that the computer had been messed with? I know I sound like a nervous ninny but after what I just went through with my last car I don't won't to void my warranty for 10-15 hp. I would like more power but this is a daily driver not a dragster.

Between the magna flow single exhaust and the K and N intake which mod is more likely to achieve a larger gain in gas mileage (if any)? I want to go ahead and do at least mod while Ive got some extra $$
