Default Talked to Explorer Express about X Charger

Called Explorer Express today. Talked with the guy in charge of the Mustang X Charger. He said the V6 will be ready any day. They have done some recent changes to get the air charge cooler (by going with a CAI type intake). He said they have gotten the Hi-Po kit OK'ed in California now, so there will only be one kit, and it will be Hi-Po.

He said cost will be about $4200 if you need the XCal2, but if you have one, it will be $3800 and you can buy the tune for the Supercharger from Doug at Bamachips.

The boost is said to be about 8-9 PSI, and users can expect 280-285 at the rear wheels. The touque develops EXTREMELY quickly, with max torque coming on before 1500 RPM. He said the dyno show what would more correctly be called a "torque shelf", since the torque pegs up to 260 early, and stays there right through 5000+ RPM.

They have over 200 of a very similar blower out there in Explorers on the V6 4.0.

The guy (whose name I forget... duh...) was REAL nice and spent like 15 minutes on the phone with me. Really helpful. He drives a GT and says the V6 with the blower will blow away a GT due to the incredible low RPM torque (of course, they will be making a kit for GT's too).

It all sounds good.... except no intercooling, so temps will be high going to the engine, but, he said they have not seen any problems with the Explorers, and the tune will be designed to watch for high inlet temps.

Sounds like it is going to be real nice. It is self lubed, and you only have to change the lub every 100,000 miles. An Eaton blower. Sounds like it will be a real clear install, sitting on top of the engine.

I am leaning heavily this way.... I am not looking to do 1/4 miles, and I never push the engine past 5000 RPM. I want real head snap between 1000 and 4000 RPM. This seems to be the way to go for me.

you know i was seriously considering the x-charger before, but man come on...that thing just keeps going up in price and it is getting to the point where it is not worth it. 4200 bucks to run at 9 psi and only make 280rwhp???? the non intercooled powerhouse turbo kit is 300 bucks less than that and with an extra few hundred thrown onto that 4200 you can have the ph turbo and install. Plus you can get an intercooler late down the road. Also, turbo innovations is coming out with an intercooled kit running around 3800 bucks! For what the x-charger is, it needs to be priced competitively....4200 bucks is not going to help it sell imo.

The advantage of the xcharger is it is more of a street oomph. While it may not make as much hp as the others the low end torque would make it a fun car on the road and decent on the track

i am glad i went with the x- the lack of piping and the easy access to my motor , waterpunp and everything else just makes sence. im just not into all that tubing. plus you have to factor in the install. 5 hours is a pretty basic install.

I can tell you first hand Afixer's Explorer SC is bad A$$. I saw him pull away and he went like 0-40 in about 2 seconds. Very impressive first hand.

oh i agree it is very bad *** and i am not trying to discourage people, but i am going for flat out straight line performance and i just dont think the new prices for the x make it the best bang for the buck.

yeah, i have to agree, 4200 is too much for that thing when you can get the turbo kit for not too much more. i would not pay more than mid 3k's

Everybody is hung up on horsepower? Who cares about horsepower? I never want to drag race, so I am not pinning the car to 6000 RPM, WHICH IS WHERE you see the max horsepower. If I can get an add-on that gives me 260 ft-lb of torque from 1500 to 5000 RPM, this will make the car a rocket ship on the road, in everyday driving, and for times you want to ring it out on the back roads. Do you want to wait till 4000 RPM to get your torque, or have it at 1500 ??? No contest when it comes to seat of the pants feel.
