If you go with the 4:10's you probally won't have to down shift. The only issue with gears is mileage drops, no problem with a few hundred higher rpm's driving, you will notice the engine sound. Mine are working great. (t-loc and ford racing gears) A little more wear on the engine because of the higher rpm's, but nothing if you take care of the car.

I read that 3.73 are better for manuals and 4.10 for automatics...I got a manual and I do alot of driving: highway and city, so will 3.73 will be better for me???
ya and i read lots of things, alot of which was B.S

4.10s are really fine for any motor, i would actually go 4.30s in a 5 speed due to a taller 5th gear but they dont make them for the 7.5

and i would also go with a detroit true trac, i know people have had luck with the tloks but eventually, they will give out, cheap engine parts will also last you a while, but after a while they will get destroyed, you dont go cheap onn the motor, why go cheap on the rest of the car

people say 3.73 for manuals because we already have a short 1st gear and if this is your daily driver and you arent looking for pure performance you are better off with 3.73's...mustangman is right if what you want is pure performance.

I have a an 03 Mach1 with 4.10's and would not want to drive it as a daily driver. Almost no first gear and it jerks because it wants to keep revving. Not sure how they would feel on my 06 V6. If I were to do gears I would stick with 3.73's since it's my daily driver. But like I said I've only driven my Mach which is a V8 and redlines over 6k so not sure what kind of difference it would make especially since the V6 peaks around 5500rpm. Just my 2cents.

not really, my buddies GT still gets over 21 mpg on the highway with 4.10s, and he has a 99 with a t45 tranny, in which 5th gear is .67 vs .62, IMO 4.10s or nothing, and thats only cause they dont make 4.30s for the 7.5
