GT Rear w/ V6 Driveshaft?

GT Rear w/ V6 Driveshaft?
If I were to find a wrecked S197 GT with a good 8.8" rear (drum-to-drum, so to speak), would the V6 driveshaft be a direct bolt-on? If not, what would be required to make it work (or would the GT driveshaft work). If a used GT rear could be utilized, that would be an inexpensive alternative to building up the 7.5" V6 pumpkin.

I guess you mean disc to disc ...no drums on modern mustangs. The hp and tq limits on the 8.8 are much higher than on the 7.5 ..so it would be a good alternative to beefing up the 7.5. On the fitment issue i read somewhere that Shelby uses a plate to make the v6 driveshaft work with the GT rearend.

That is where I got mine, and having it drop shipped to PH. They did the swap on thier manual car, I will inquire on the specifics today.

That is a great price, even with $160 shipping to the East coast. Plus the unit is a take-off with limited mileage. I know of one other possible source for GT rears. Either that or find a good used unit locally out of a 5-spd GT with a more desirable 3.55:1 8.8" LSD differential. Not sure if my local tuner could reset my XCAL2 to that ratio or not.

RE: GT Rear w/ V6 Driveshaft??
I researched this swap for my car and currently have a GT manual rear end with the 3.55 gears in shipping. The yoke or flange on the GTs is different from what the OEM V6 driveshaft requires, or what an after market V6 driveshaft will require. You need to replace the yoke with a P/N E9TZ-4851-A flange in order to mate the GT rear end to your V6 driveshaft. I verified this with a call to Shelby in Las Vegas where I talked to Ted about their CS6 vehicle. According to Ted, the CS6 rear ends Shelby is selling through Hillbank Motorsports have the Mustang GT flange replaced with the E9TZ-4851-A yoke (verified this P/N too). Ted said you can identify this flange because its face is flat, where the stock Mustang GT flange is a cupped shape. One of the guys who is building a CS6 using a Powerhouse V6 driveshaft reported he had no problem with the shaft installation using the Hillbank rear end with the E9TZ-4851-A yoke. Powerhouse also verified this P/N on the yoke.
I found one source for, the E9TZ-4851-A flange (http://www.drivetrainspecrapts.com/c...duct-1117.html), for $47.26 plus shipping but other sources should be able to get it including Ford dealers..

Yes indeed that Flange is required when installing the GT 8.8 rear ends.
(rygenstormlocke, thanks for the order) -Ken
Here is a local customer's car that we sold one of these rear ends to:
New 8.8
Old 7.5 axle:
