Default RE: Vortech Supercharger!

Let me explain how it was explained to me ..........

I looked at 2 different graphs from V6 automatics that Alternative Auto had on file, and they showed almost identical at 10.7psi at 6000rpm. The pressure drop of the intercooler is already compensated by Vortech. If you were to leave your 10psi pulley on the blower, but remove the intercooler you would see a high boost pressure (less restriction). I am only able to speculate, from my discussions with Lidio. The best intercooler you can buy is a 0.5psi unit for $1400, so I doubt the Vortech has less than 1psi pressure drop. The old rule of thumb, back in the day, was 0.5psi loss per 90 degree bend in the system. The Vortech intercooler inside is basically a U-shape which by this rule would be 1psi, plus the 90 degree elbow into the throttle body which equals a total of 1.5psi loss. I have spoken with people whom have run non-intercooled Vortech's and added the Vortech cooler that have specified 2+psi loss.

Yes, you are correct. I think the pulley is 2.95, but will have to check on that. I remember talking with you at Ubly last year and saw the temp sensor moved to the intercooler. The methanol is good for 60-100 degree temperture drops, depending on application. Normal operating temperature of the blower is around 170 degrees, at the boost levels we are talking about. You must also factor in blower inlet temp (underhood air) and underhood temps themselves. Blower operating temps even in summer heat should never be over 200 degrees. The methanol minimal gain would be intake temps of 140 degrees. They measure by temperature in the actual intake mainfold.

Boost in our application, is actually recirculated into the inlet pipe of the blower - not dumped to atmosphere like turbos. When inlet temps exceed 130-140 degrees, timing is pulled and boost can be recirulated if required (waste gate).

I will be calling soon to find out the progress. When you go there the next time, Lidio can explain the system and setup better than me. I'm just the user! I have also come up with a way to lower our blower inlet temperatures, which I will be discussing with Lidio soon.

Thanks!

Default Vortech Supercharger - Final results

Hey,

The final tune is complete. The car settled into 10.5psi, less boost than expected (I'm eating my words from the earlier post, I received bad information). The air/fuel was kept a conservative 11:1. The dyno numbers were as follows: 328rwhp/310rwtq.

These numbers are close to what I wanted, so job complete. I will revisit a pulley change to 12psi and a custom cold air kit, come warmer weather. I would like to see 340-350rwhp/350rwtq, which should be achieveable with a little more boost.

All I have left is to install my Fang front chin spoiler, and have fun for 2007!

Hope this helps!

Very cool!!! Can't wait to see that thing run!!!

BTW... I really like my MRT hood... it's amazing how much cooler it keeps the actual supercharger... normally after driving the car the supercharger itself would be way to hot to touch... but with the hood opening blowing air right on the SC it is actually cool enough to touch!!! And of course the other side blows right on my aftercooler... LOL!

how much boost can these engines handle?

Default Revised - Vortech Supercharger Installed

Hey,

I picked up my car from Alternative Auto this morning, and have had about 1-2hours to drive it before going to work. Let's first give everyone the hard numbers: 328rwhp/310rwtq. The car drives real nice, you don't notice the Vortech until about 3500rpm and things get crazy by 4500rpm. My car only makes 10.5psi at 6000rpm. Later this spring/summer we may play with timing and 1-2psi more boost. Definitley worth the money, nobody should be disapointed.

Watch the webiste www.alternativeauto.com, as there will a writeup on the install soon!

Thanks!

Nice! A taller gear will get you to boost a lot faster, are you running the stock gears? Did the car break loose at all or was it a conservative drive back?
