Default Boost Question

Ok gang I figured this would be the place to ask this other than in the Pipes, Boost, and Juice section of the Forums.

If I were to get any one of the superchargers available for our V6 or the Powerhouse turbo kit, what would that do to the life of the engine and how would it affect maintenance? I ask this, because I'm no mechanic, the best I can do is changing the oil and doing a minor tune-up. If something broke on the car (like the head gasket) I would have to have a mechanic do it. If the blower or turbo doesn't really effect that, then I think it would be a viable option for me.

As I said some months ago I started working a second job to pay of some debts. I have since gotten engaged. Me and the fiancee were talking about either getting a blower of some sort or in the year after the wedding, I could give her my car then I could get a GT. Our wedding is in 2008, so it would be 2009 the last year (suppossedly) of the S197 Mustang.

So please, tell me about the blower/turbo systems, don't say trade the chick or the car or anything like that

Thanks.

15k miles on my blower all ive had done is oil changes no services. The blower will shorten the life of your motor. But i think its safe to say if you take good care of it you could last at least 80k or more.

ive got the exact same 4.0 in our 2001 explorer, and its at 210k miles with 0 probs.

i think if you were nice to your car, with 9psi or less you can probably go 100-120k miles

im hopin for 50k out of mine

I was under the impression that a Turbo was worse for a car than a Supercharger. Is that true?

well forced induction is never really "good" for an engine. typically a blower will cause more stress than a turbo because of leaching power to make power. a 350whp supercharged engine, may actually be feeling the same stress as a 370whp turbo engine. Now on the other hand, depending on the turbo setup, the boost delivery can be alot more violent which creates more stress
