Looking for a California emissions legal CAI.
I was about to buy the C&L intake with X-Cal 2 tuner from Brenspeed but just learned that the C&L intake is not street legal in California.
So I have a couple questions, does it really matter that it isn't street legal? I doubt that law enforcement is going to check under my hood C.A.R.B certification, I also don't think the SMOG tech is going to be too concerned either.
If it is not advised to drive a non-street legal CAI then what is a good California legal CAI? The AEM and K&N intakes are legal but I heard that they are not as effective because they do not replace the restrictive stock air box

for one, you are going to want to remove the cai and tune before smogging your car. you never know, a tuned car may not pass, and i have found, that even with a carb legal intake, you may still have to jump through hoops to have it smogged.
secondly, the only people that cops check for modified parts are ricers, so as long as you arent street racing, you will be OK with the C&L

cali smog is rediculous but its for good cause i suppose. Keep ALL of your stock parts. Because you are better off just throwing the stock intake back on for smog unless you know somewhere that can do a test for free. It is getting harder and harder to fake smog damn...

I heard here in VA in about 3 years they are going to the same emissions standards as in Calif.
So what exactly is different? Do you have more smog filter stuff on your cars?

The amount of CO2 the exhaust produces I believe is required to be lower. I think most cars today are made to match the CARB emissions standards; however, modifications that add more fuel/air to the engine create more CO2 and walla, you don't pass smog and can't get your car registered.

wowi had no clue that an air intake can chage emissions. do you guys think it'd be better to keep the stock exhaust too just in the case of getting of my MRT exhaust not passing?
