I have not been really active in the forum the past few months. I have not posted any threads waiting for some information. Here we go:
My 4.0L V6 blew up at Lapeer Dragway back in early May. The culprit was a failed Vortech supercharger. The engine was consuming oil from the failed unit, causing detonation and failure.
I have been in contact with Jamie at Vortech, and now they don’t even return my calls. I only asked them to help me out with whatever was fair to them. Vortech has since warranted the supercharger, acknowledging the problem. This is where the warranty and service stops apparently. I would have accepted a new set of pistons from Vortech, but they have not even come up with that as of yet.
By now you are thinking I’m a rare case right! No, in my local area there has been (4) more reported Vortech failures of this type leaking oil into the engine. They have been caught at various stages, before they cost the owners an engine.
Please think about what I have noted above, and think before you purchase your next supercharger. It may also be a good idea to pull off the plastic inlet side of your Vortech unit and check for signs of oil.
Good luck to all and if I here any more news from Vortech, I will be sure to update this posting.
Thanks!
