upgrade to the 351w
sorry if i put this in the wrong place but i didn't know where. so i'm basically wanting to do what the subject says and of course i have basic/general questions. first i'll put the engine i'm getting: on ebay it's Item number: 220137194143. seems like a solid engine and it's not too far from where i live. the first big one is will this engine fit? i know i'll have to get a crawl hood or something similar but what else would i need done? i know i'm gonna have to get a new tranny for this but i'm not sure what to get, any suggestions? if anyone has done this please fill me in or something. my email is rly_stupid@yahoo.com/braunedp@cvn75.navy.mil thanks!

no i'm not gonna lie this would be a new experience for me but ya gotta start somewhere and i've always loved the idea of a 351w in a mustang. well i got the mustang now i need to get the engine. i know it'll require a lot of money and time and i have both so i wanna see what i can do with my car.

How much money and time? You cant just throw it in the stock engine mounts, connect the computer, convert to carb and bolt up a matching transmission. Not unless you are extremly rich and have professionals to do it.

yes, of course it can be done. it is not easy at all, but of course it can be done. you will definitely need a shop to put it in though, not at all a backyard project.
what I am saying, is that it is not impossible to do it, while it is also not impossible to put a vette engine into our cars.

RE: upgrade to the 351w
It should fit , A 4.6 is 28.9" wide, 27.1" long and 29.8" tall while the 351W is 25" wide, 29" long and 29" tall.
The 351 is a full 2" longer than the 4.6 which may not seem that much but could mean a world of difference if you cant move it foward enough to clear the firewall. If you cant then your talking about notching the firewall which will require alot of fabrication.
I cant help you with your transmission question, I cant really find dimensions for the transmissions offered in newer mustangs so i have nothing to compare.
I suggest before you purchase anything for the swap, yank the stock motor and tranny, Go out and purchase a mock up kit which is basically a cardboard motor and trans. Set it in the engine bay and make sure it will fit. If not then you can reconsider your engine/tranny combo. At best it will give you an idea of the body mods you will have to undertake.
Frame mounts will have to be relocated as well as the tranny mount. Not to difficult if you can weld, Lots of company's make universal type mounts you can modify to fit your needs. Ford racing makes a kit to convert a 5.0 to a 351 in fox bodied fords, try giving them a call and see if they have anything you could use out of the box or modify to use. You will also need a custom driveshaft made.
If your dead set on a 351, Look into a mid 90's Lightning. They had a 351,you could prolly incorporate it with a harness from painless unless you plan on going to a carburated set up.
Forget about ever being emissions legal and also keep in mind that if you make this swap you cannot legally drive it on the road because you have disabled the emission controls. If you live in an area that does emission tests that will be a problem. If they dont test in your area than what they dont know wont hurt them.
