how often do you guys change your transmission fluid? my car is a year old and has about 25k miles on it with an auto trans and was just wondering when i should have the fluid changed.

i would do it. and the anti-freeze too. better safe....

im changing mine in a few days, im at 50K

i go to a service place every 3k miles so everything else is fine but they said they cant change the fluid so i can either do it and bring it to the dealership. most of my driving is on the highway with very rare traffic.

your first change is at 50k miles?

yup. i was talking to a guy who works for ford, he works with transmissions. he told me i didnt really need to worry about it till about 50k. he works mainly with manual transmissions but ill take his word for it. btw i wouldnt go to the stealership unless you want to over pay like crazy for it. i plan on doing it myself.

You plan on buying the special tool to refill??.. or the larger pan with the dipstick?

yea well if im good to 50k miles then thats fine probly wont even have the car that long was jsut curious because ic ant seem to get a clear cut answer.

try reading your service manual, all the service intervals are in it. 50k is a good time to get the transmission fluid changed, 25k is probably to early (not that it will harm anything other than your pocketbook).

2 steps ahead of you read it but didnt make any clear indication unless i was in excessive stop go driving thats why i figured id ask you guys.

Well, I had a leak at 5000 miles and had the dealership fix and change it then..

I'm thinking I'll have it changed again around 55k to make up the difference.
