Default auto trans shifting question

Hi folks. I am a new Mustang owner and a new Mustang enthusiast. I just bought a beautiful black '07 V6 and I love it. I do have a question about the automatic transmission. Under normal acceleration, it shifts into 2nd at around 10 mph. At around 20 mph, it shifts into 3rd and then immediately shifts into 4th (at something like 22 or 23 mph). Then, it waits until about 50 mph to go into 5th. It seems to shift in a more logicalpattern if Ipush it really hard. Are these transmissions just calibrated to shift better when you put the pedal down?

Thanks for your help!!!

Michael

Congrats on the new Stang and welcome to Mustang Forums!!!

It sounds like your tranny is OK. It DOES shift differently under normal driving conditions versus when it's under WOT (wide open throttle). In fact, it seems like the autos make the 2-3 shift very quickly underWOT (at least the ones I've heard at the track).

Post some pics when you can...

Its to get the engine into overdrive as soon as possible for better gas mileage. Get a tune and she will really slam second and third! I really like this transmission, good acceleration and good mileage. Plus we have good torque from these 4.0s.

must be fun when you jam on it and it just slams through the gear like that.

In my old 93 FD it was like it would go into gear and it was like only 2 gears lol..the boost would kick in,it would redline that gear then drop to about 3500 and just build acceleration from there..it was a turtle after boost dropped.[:'(]

that car was jacked..

The basic auto trans w/ non tune is economical as was stated above Remember that the computer is programmed for saving gas first, fun last.

Get a tune like the C&L + SCT tune and it becomes fun first, saving gas last. You could save gas with the 91/93 tune, but what person doesn't have an iron clad shoe after getting a tune on their v6? :P

For the record I currently can hit 30-32mpg on the freeway in the "right" conditions. If there is wind, upgrade, other things (traffic conditions bad) then gas mpg is usually sitting around 20-25mpg WITH the 91 tune on.

My buddy just add the sct tune and it is a different car to me. It feels a lot more firm in the tranny and just a lot more fun to drive.
