Default Gear change and mpg

Hi everybody,
I'm going to be installing a trac-lok in my '05 and was kicking around the idea of doing gears too. Those of you that have changed gear ratios, how much of an effect did it have on your fuel milage?

My '05 is going to become more of a year-round daily driver/commuter so I need to keep the MPGs up there, but I'd like it to be fun also. Are there any other mods that will help the milage and boost the fun factor at the same time?

Thanks for any help.

Greg

Just went ahead and checked, with a mix of city and highway driving, I got exactly 18.75 mpg on my first 1/4 tank.

I have 3.73s and I probably lost 1mpg. Totally worth it for me.

... I'm lucky to get above 18.00 on a stock stock stock pony with lightfoot driving (never going above 2krpm.) That's mixed city highway - mostly highway. What gives?

And I just put an order in for a tlok and 4.10s with a VMP CAI with a 91 performance tune.

Am I going to be in trouble?

Typically, custom tunes are going to be better than the factory tune. Pair that with a CAI and exhaust and a slight bump in MPG can be expected. The tune DOES vary though. Doug's Torque Tune.. forget about it.I can practically watch the needle move left!
