3.73 or 4.10's

RE: 3.73 or 4.10's
I also went with 3.73 just in case I was lucky enough in the future to get an xcharger. i drive between 70-85 mph on the highway on long trips and was worried about gas milage with the 4.10s. I don't recall what rpms i'm at going to speed.. but it's a noticeable difference from stock... but not in a bad way.. I can actually pass using 5th gear now.
With regard to traction.. I do have a t-lok installed.. but that would only help.. My car is pretty peppy off the line.. and I have to consciously keep myself from jumping. Not sure if that's just me or the gears and tune .. either way.. I love the way the car drives now.

When deciding on gears, you must also consider rear tire diameter, as that affects your final gear ratio. I have 4.10:1 gears in my 5-spd coupe, but I prefer the 28" dia drag radials from M&H, which measure 275/50R17. The taller tire drops/raises my gearing to 3.95:1, versus the stock 17" Pirellis. Conversely, a 26" dia DR like the Mickey Thompson ET Streets will change my final gearing to 4.25:1.
So you need to consider the tires you are planning to run after the gears are installed.

well im not exactly sure which way to go either yet, been debating it for a few months, either 3.73 or 4.10 with tlok (slipping from the redlights in the rain sucks)
can you all give me prices on how much it costed to installed and how much the parts were? I just want an estimate, i plan on having a frrp ford dealer do it because it'll keep my warranty from being voided which is good.

i found a local shop that will do the install for $350. i'm supplying the 3.73 gears and t-lok. the shop specializes in drivelines and they even manufacture their own mustang driveshafts so they will supply all remaining parts needed, bearings, washers, etc. as for ford doing it, i would expect a few hundred bucks more.

Also, my plan: Get a CAI, tune, and gears + tlok all done at ONCE, then, when I roll out of the shop, unleash the beast.
I won't know the difference between stock and either just gears or just CAI. I'll get the full brunt.
-- Will that be too dangerous as I wouldn't know how to drive my own car?

Where are you located? I need one in the San Fernando Valley/LA area (willing to drive far.)

RE: 3.73 or 4.10's
just got an install appointment for 3.73's & t-lok on monday. really looking forward to it. i originally had some used 3.73's but the shop i'm getting it done at already has brand new ford 3.73's for $200, which he highly recommends for a newer street car since used gears already have an existing wear pattern from the previous vehicle. i guess its better piece of mind and at least i'm getting ford oem gears. i'll keep u all posted.
