An engine swap isn't as easy as just swapping the engine. By the time you get everything together to do the swap right, you probably WILL have to spend 10,000 Gs, lol. If the V8 is what you really want, then my best advice is to drive the V6 the way it is right now, bone stock, until you get out of college. Then get what you really want.

My opinion on the situation:
You want a mid-low 13sec car or quicker:
-V6 with x-charger or other supercharger w/o intercooler with some mods will do it.
-GT with cai/tune will do it

More reliable choice GT, but insurance is more expensive. Gas would be about the same since you will be running premium and the supercharger robs a little mpg too.

You want a 12 sec car:
-V6 with intercooled supercharger and some mods will do it
-GT with cai/tune and gears will do it if you can drive, if not some DR's or a hi-flow axle-back or mid-pipe should do it

More reliable GT, but higher insurance. MPG thing as stated above is same too.

Anything low-Mid 12 sec car and lower:
-V6 with intercooled turbocharger and some mods will do it
-GT with cai/tune, gears, DR's, and partial(axle-back and mid-pipe) or full exhaust(headers too)

Same stuff as stated above.

Any goals for 11's for a street car would have to be a full bolt-on GT or supercharged GT. That much boost on a turbo V6 I wouldn't say is close to safe for a DD to hit 11's.

Those are your options for different goals. Each has their own pluses and minuses, choose one based on what you want. And we all know V8's have better sounding exhausts then V6's.

I would keep the V6 stock, and then trade it in,buy the GT when you can afford it. Thats what I wanted to do, but my wife got attached to the sixer, so it became hers when I bought my GT

I hadn't read Denny's note before, but his advice is exactly what I did. I had a car fall into my lap that I couldn't resist - a 1985 4-eye SSP (Special Service Package) Mustang 5.0L/5spd.

I determined that it was put in service by the California Highway Patrol as Unit #8395 (found the ID number on the car). If you haven't driven a 5.0L Fox, then you should. These cars are a blast and quite a value (as a regular Fox or SSP)

Unless the sound isn't a problem for you, your budget best fits blowing the 6'er IMHO.
