V6 supercharged or V8
Hi everyone,
I'm looking to buy a Mustang but I am not allowed to get a V8 at this point in time so I have to go with the V6, but I am getting a 5-speed Manual Transmission. I was wondering is it a better idea in the long run to supercharge the V6 or would it be better to swap it out for a V8. I know the V8 swap would be a lot more work in the long run but then I would have a V8. I'm not worried about emission law or anything of that nature we don't have them in Michigan so a V8 swap isn't really a problem. Cost wise I'm looking at $5,000 to $6,000 either way. I have already planed on upgrading the suspension, rear axle and breaks. So what does everyone think should I go for the V8 or supercharge the V6?
The V8 I was going to put in would be a stock 4.6L 3V motor, 5.4L 4V motor (maybe supercharged if I can find the right price), or a 4.6L aluminum 4V motor. Which ever one I can afford.
The V6 would be supercharged with an Explorer Express X-CHARGER.

wow, so many choices. i would just x-charge it if i were you. if you have the "it's only a V6" syndrome, then maybe you should wait and get a used GT down the road. i think once you start modding the V6, you'll have more appreciation for the 4.0 engine. it doesn't put down the big numbers stock but its got lots of potential.

I understand saving up for the GT but that's not the problem insurance rates are it's kind of expensive for a low paid 20 somthing college student. That's why I'm not getting the GT first. I think I'm going to get a GT motor and build it up before I put it in. I was wondering how hard it would be to put a older GT motor in like a 4.6L 4V dual overhead cam in?

dude superchargered v6 are bad man that are less weight than a gt with equeal or greater horse power with some other mods you can try and get your weight distribution to as close to 50 50 as possible and you will have a fun time

sounds like my situation before...honestly i wanted a v8 badly but i was need of a car...the only mustang my parents would help me buy was a v6..n i was just like ehhh whatever...but after a drivin it for a while i fell in love with it, even my gf was gettin jelous..after being on the forums while you learn so much..and swapping to a v8 will cause you problems down the road..imo buy a v8 if you can, if cant wait save enough money and buy a gt later when you get older...i dont regret get a v6 also becuse it thought me alot and my next car will diffinitly be a v8 and i'll already know what to do with it.. lol

Think outside of the box!
If you really want a v8, then go for a older model, like the 89' 5.0 GT@225hp/178 real world hp stock for about 3000, thats like buying a new V6/4.0 for 3000 in power and saving around 13000 if you can get a V6/4.0 for 16000 and then blow or turbo the 5.0 GT for another 4000-6000g's and the insurance will be lower then the 05-08 newer ones.
For around 10000g's you can have the sound, power@maybe 350-500hp and lower insurance then the 05-08 newer models.
I have a guy at my job selling a 89' 5.0 GT for around 3000 w/71,000 miles on the meter and I think thats a good price, plus the ride is in like mint condition. If I didn't buy the s/c'er for my 4.0/V6 I could of got that 5.0 for less money then I had spent on my 4.0/V6, You could go that way or go with the s/c'ed V6 or buy the newer V8 05- 08 model and pay out the butt-hole in the insurance. It's your call!
If your on a budget then forget about the 4.0 to the 5.4 swap-thing.
Just my .02cents,
Denny
