I do everything myself on my car but not the transmisison fluid.

Ford decided it would be funny to give us a drain plug but no fill hole or dip stick!
you can drain it but you wont drain the torque converter
then if you try to fill it you will make a hell of a mess. Ford uses a machine to pump the fluid out with pressure from the transmission lines on the lower part of the radiator and it is filled the same way. if you somehow manage to drain it and fill it, you will still have old fluid in the torque converter.

take it to ford and i say that with my tail between my legs, i hate dealerships. its just over 100 bux...

you can buy a pan with a dip stick, but for autos its better to have someone do it with a machine to flush it and change the filter

What happens if you use full synthetic?

in all reality i dont think it really matters, anything is better then nothing, but your just wasting more money on full synthetic even though full syn does tend to be a little bit thinner then something like mercIII, if you rebuilt your tranny recently or replaced it and had a warrenty from tremec i would use what they recomend however.

i had an article on it somewhere but i think it was on my old computer

Is changing the oil something a DIY'er can do? I've changed my manual transmission oil on my Honda Accord many times without an issue and just wondering if changing the Mustang's transmission oil is just as easy.

Secondly, is the Redline product one that you guys would use and if not, what do you guys recommend?

TIA
Here is a quick explanation that may help everyone out. When a transmission is designed the engineer considers the fluid as if it is a moving part, like a gear or a synchro. The sling rate, weight and lubricity all play a part in making sure the synchros hold on to just enough fluid for good shift quality. I have had countless customers buy $20/quart super duper synthetics, only to find that the properties of the fluid do not match the gearbox, resulting in poor synchronization and crunchy shifting. Then it's $60 in the catch pan and three quarts of the right stuff.

There are a few aftermarket fluids that do a good job of copying the properties of the original stuff, but then you are just paying extra for a copy of the original stuff.

If it's your engine, put in the slipperiest stuff you can find with the most detergent value. If it's your transmission, trust the manufacturer and put in what they call for. Just my $.02.

1. put sand in the engine for the "port and polish"
2. ran water instead of oil to "clean out the engine gunk and such"
3. Locktite on the oil drain plug
4. diesel instead of gas because it was cheaper and thought they would get better mileage

and so forth. These people actually though they were doing things that were OK to the car.

I am glad you noticed the mistake right away before something went wrong.
5. Let's not forget the idiots that raise the back of the car by the differential!!!!!!!!!!!!!
