Default 99-04 Shifters on a s197?

I've searched countless forums (including MF) seeing if shifters for the New Edge platform would fit on an 08. Reason being I LOVE how the shifter arms look. I loved the shifter in the New Edge and I miss the long 'curve' style. So, would http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/5SPD-...Q5fAccessories fit? Or do I just need to modify the shuft 'arm/lever'?

Thanks!

A shifter made for any car but an S197 V6 will not fit your car. Your options for a new shifter are fairly limited. The popular choices seem to be Hurst and MGW. With either of these shifters you may be able to get the extension arm you would like, unlikely, but it could happen(prob a better chance with the Hurst).

The shifter on a new edge sits right on top of the trans, but in an S197 the trans sits about 18" in front of the actual shifter so it is considered a remote shifter for that reason.

I'll probably go with Hurst. I'm sure there's a shift arm/lever out there that I could rig up. Thanks vee6!

Deadbeat,

You should be warned that Hurst's shifter for the S197 V6 rattles for MOST people.. the fix is not 100% effective. The MGW shifter is considered higher quality and doesn't rattle. Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up. I've read about the infamous rattle, but honestly, my car already makes so many rattles I don't think one more would hurt Thanks again!

OT:
iRok,
Have you decided what kind of wheel setup youre going to go with? I remember you saying you might go with the Nascar Eagle white letter tires. Just curious

Thanks for asking about the wheels... actually, I decided to stop modding my V6 and buy a GT since the prices are coming down SO much!

And yeah, the T5 tranny is a NOISEY S.O.B. along with it's neighbor the overweight, clunky driveshaft - they're the major reason (besides the V8 power/sound) why I'm not investing any further in my V6.. I just feel that it will ALWAYS feel like a rattle trap and putting more money into it will only make it bother me more!

IMO the car is AWESOME when it comes to being (for a V6) quick and powerful and badass looking.. but I REALLY want the V8!

Funny, I was in the same boat as you. My GIRLFRIEND was the one who actually suggested I buy a supercharger opposed to trading in my baby for an 8. Whenever I think v6 versus v8s, I just think of the Grand National In all honesty, my mustang could have beeen a 4 cylinder and I'd still be happy just to drive a 'Mustang'. But good luck with you choice. I'm sure the roaring v8 will do more than satisfy.

If you were to just replace the arm from a new edge and not the whole shifter I wouldn't be suprised if it worked. They both use a 2 bolt pattern, so as long as the bolts had the same spacing I don't see a problem. On the other hand, I'm not sure how it would feel going through the gears with an offset like that.
