Default 8.8 Rear - DIY?

I'm still deciding if my next mod should be the 8.8 rear w/ 3.73's or suspension work. If I do go with the 8.8 Rear will I be able to install it myself with basic tools? My friend's dad offered to help so it would be the three of us, with some jackstands, and basic tools...can we do it? Easily?

The reason I don't want it professionally installed is because of the cost. Ford Dealer said $400-500 and a mustang shop said $475(4 hours) which is half the price of the piece, ridiculous...

A rear end swap is not a major job you should be able to do it in 4-5 hours.

if you can remove a bolt (x's a dozen), and bleed brakes, you will do just fine.

Bleed brakes?

Also I noticed the take-off has ABS but my car doesn't have that now. Will everything work fine?

Bleeding brakes is easy. You may not even have to bleed them. I'm pretty sure you could just unbolt the calipers from the rear end and leave them attached to the brake lines. Just use a pice of wire or something to hang the calipers from under the car so they aren't hanging by the brake line.

No bleeding brakes...

Yes. I have NO ABS, and I'm running an 8.8 with ABS. Hard to describe the difference between an ABS and no ABS rear-end for these cars - basically you have nothing to worry about. It took me about 4 hours with hand tools, aside from the flange. If you can I highly recommend buying it with the flange installed.

Good luck and get ready for some niceeeee hookup ability!!!

I had my car in for warranty work and one of the mechanics (their FRPP guy) told me he works on the side at home. His garage looked like a dealer shop.

I paid him $100 cash and a case of his fav beer (that was a bonus). Took him about 2.5 hours.

Yeah I don't exactly have the hook up with an FRPP mechanic so I guess I'll be installing it myself. Sounds like it's doable though. And yes I'll be buying it with the flange.
