Im not thinking of putting down enough power to break the 7.5 anyway... this seems like a great idea for the time.

We just did the math in another thread and you'll definitely save money going with an 8.8 take-off. If you planning on buying an FRPP t-lok then you're not losing anything, plus an 8.8 will hold up better if you plan on some kind of power adder in the future. Plus, there have been people who've blown the 7.5 rear-ends NA and you're taking more chances getting gears installed vs. getting a rear-end installed. If the gears aren't installed correctly, there's a very real possibility there could be a lot of whine.
That being said, do what you want, bro. Let us know how those gears turn out!

If I could sell the 7.5 and shave down the price of the 8.8, I would. I just don't know if that is plausible.

NM523, YES IT IS POSSIBLE! It may take awhile to sell it though; mine was on the market for almost 6 months. Someone is always looking for one, especially if they wrecked.
With a blower, you need to go to a 8.8 or at least upgrade the 7.5 to a different carrier instead of the t-loc. Not having to worry about breaking the rear end is very comforting!
