Question About Gear install
i've been doing a lot of surfing to try and find some good deals as well as what i need to install some 3.73s and a tlock. i was planning on ordering from stangmods because they have a pretty sweet package deal (http://www.stangmods.com/Mustang-Gea...-pack2.htm)and we get the forum discount and free shipping so i would have evrything i need to my door for 435!
Now my only question is... the install kit says its "recommended when you install gears in cars with over 60K miles"... my car has about 12k miles so do i still need the install kit.. and also ive decided against this package because it comes with motive gears and ive heard mostly bad things about them...
so does anyone know if i need the install kit, and any other suggestions on where to get a "higher quality" 3.73 for the 7.5 rear end.
thanks everyone
ps stang is at the body shop now getting gt bumper and bullit grill put on and stripes painted so ill definitely post pictures when its back

The only thing you need to install a set of gears is a competent and highly qualified mechanic. Gears are not a job for the home mechanic. Learning to set proper backlash takes a lot of experience, and setting backlash 1/100th of an inch off will make your gears whine like a baby who lost his pacifier.
However, since you are planning to do gears and T-loc, your best bet is to find an 8.8 rear end pre-assembled from a GT and install the entire thing. Might cost a little bit more, but you'll save in installation costs as this is a job that can easily be done in the driveway.

+1. Just get a 8.8 with the gears in it. you'll get benefits of the built-in trac-loc, along with a stronger unit. For the price of the parts you mention plus the cost of getting the gears installed, you can buy an 8.8. And if you look around locally, you might even find one for less.
After going through gears, then a trac-loc, etc., I still ended up going to an 8.8, which is what I should have done to begin with. I would have spent less money overall and saved a bunch of time and effort.
