Blew my positive battery cable in half.Any ideals why?

Hello everyone,
Here is my story, hope someone can help. I was just changing my alternator to fix the "dead battery issue and PO340 and PO344 DTC problem" When hook up my negitive battery cable I got a large spark and it burned my cable in half.
These are the thing I checked. The battery was hooked up correctly, positive to positive post and likewise with the negitive. All interior items were turn off, lights,A/C,ipod,etc. I do have a after head unit(pion.Z1) and JL and Arc audio. Check the fuses and they look ok. Check the Alt install and it look ok as well. Any other idea would help. thanks David

Your "new" alternator has a dead internal short?
Your wiring to the alternator is pinched under a mounting bolt?

Onhook the positive lead from the alternator and
give it another whirl.
The cable you burned in half will also need to be replaced.
And the fusable link under the lite blue convoluted tubing
on the harness up there by the battery and cowl vent. :icon_doh:
