what to get for under 1000?
I got a 2005 v6 automatic and im looking for more power...my limit is about 1000$ so whats the best thing to get...i dont care about look like rims and gt body kits but strictly power. Also what is the cheapest charger to get for the 2005 v6 mustang and how much does it cost/horsepower gained? Im trying to beat a friends turbo'd civic with about 315 hp lol

The standard route would be to do as I did and get intake/tuner/exhaust. Single exhaust will weigh the less and may lead to best performance but doesn't look as cool as duel exhaust. I went with single exhaust because I think it is cool despite what everybody else thinks.
I guess the most cost effective thing would be to get a cheap CAI, tune, and zex wet kit. You probably would still not be able to keep up with a civic if it is really making 315 horsepower. With a intake/tune you would be around 190 horsepower to the wheel, add in a 50 shot and maybe 220-230. I have no idea what ETA you could get in the quarter mile but maybe break into high 13's if you are lucky.

Any supercharger you buy is gonna run you at least $3000 plus install if you can't do it yourself. Even then you will probably only net a little less than 300 rwhp. Add a 50 or 75 shot like recomended above and you'll have'em.

For $1000 your best bang-for-the-buck will be CAI & tune (~$600) and gears (prices vary w/install but figure $300 or so). If not gears, perhaps UDP's (frees up 5-10 RWHP on the V8) or electric water pump (another free-up of 5-10 RWHP on the V8) or aluminum DS (frees up a few RWHP). Maybe Nitrous.

well, I think tuner is an absolute essential. No matter what mods you do, without a tuner you are not going to get anywhere.
if the 1000$ doesn't count the intake and exaust, the conservative route would be to get a tuner + gears. The less conservative route would be to get tuner + nitrous oxide kit.
To beat a 315 horsepower civic you will need to be at least on equal ground with the horespower, then have drag radials and 4.10 gears and then it might be possible to overcome the extra weight by having better gearing and traction.
To my knowledge, it isn't possible to make that much power with nitrous oxide or n/a alone, so the only way to achieve your goal is with a turbo/supercharger.

ok thanks for all the responses my lasts questions are how much hp will the 4:10 gears add and how much will those run me to get and have installed? Also if I got a supercharger/turbo would I be able to get him? Whats the best priced turbo or super? I have heard a lot about the Xcharger but does that give alot of hp?

I had 3.73 gears installed for my manual. The whole thing cost me 608$. I paid 159$ for gear, 75$ for install kit, 75 for a rebuilt tlok, and 300$ for installation.
4.10 gears will not add horsepower but they will make it so that you accelerate alot faster. They work especially good for automatics because of the fast shifting. 4.10 gears really improve the cars ability to get moving from a dead stop. Also, it will make each gear closer together and therefore keep you in the powerband.
If you do eventually get a supercharger/turbo, you will want to have a tuner and tlok anyways. If you get a tlok, you might as well have gears installed. I would just get a tuner, tlok, and gears now and drive it a bit and see how you feel about a supercharger.
I put my intake, tune, exaust, gears all on in the same week and it makes such a huge difference. Before it felt like the car was heavy and sluggish and unresponsive, after it felt very zippy.

4.10's will make the engine wind out more (but not harmful) than lower gears. They'll also reduce your fuel economy somewhat but not drastically. For a V6, I'd at least replace the stock 3.31's (if that's what you have) with 3.73's. I'd stay away from 4.10's if you do a lot of highway and cruise at more than 60-65 MPH.
I believe aspirating is about 5 or 6 times the money then the $1000 you claim to have to spend.
